Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Thursday night I was worried I'd have to abandon my truck in pieces at the paint shop, but it is safe here in Chico at this point. Terrible fire. Many friends have lost everything.

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Damn. The bedside still hasn't been repainted! My painter broke his leg, and says he's going to get his friend that's also a painter to come shoot it. Why can't something just go right? I'm tempted to pick it up as it is.

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
If you trust him I’d just ride it out. A month from now wether you had it today or a week from now most likely won’t make difference. But having a properly painted bedside will make a difference.
I’ve gotta say though it sounds like that bedside doesn’t want to be painted. You’ve had a bit of rough luck with it.

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Well it finally has another coat of paint. I can't really tell if it matches with the truck masked off, but it looks decent. The painter plans to start putting it back together tomorrow afternoon or the next day.

Wow. That looks good man. Excited for you to see your truck whole again. Paint jail scares the crap out of me. I really think that is where the "patina" craze came from! Not that I'm knocking it, but it sure makes sense!

It still doesn't match, but I don't care. I want my truck out of this guy's booth!

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
The bedside looks great from here. As I'm sure you figured out by now, it's very difficult to match older paint with new paint. I've been through this before and I know your frustration.

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
I am so happy to have my truck back! But the paint color doesn't match the factory ochre and I'm not very happy with that.
It's pouring rain so I can't take a better photo. |

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
I think the paint could have been a little more brown. Looks a little yellow-orange to me. I am happy with the body work and paint quality. At least it is protected until I decide to paint the whole truck.

The new 16"x7" wheels are here. Hoping to get them powdercoated white next week. Can't wait to get them on the truck!

I'm not sure if it's the lighting or the camera, but the bedside doesn't look too bad in the new photos. The new wheels look good!

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
love your truck, I see you have that glass fuel filter on there, another member mentioned you should get rid of it, I agree,I had one of those crack lengthwise and was spraying gas like a fan all over the engine, dont know why it didnt catch fire but i was damn lucky! it was a well made filter with replacement elements like yours, but the glass can crack! I wont use them ever again

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
It's strange how different light changes the color. In bright sunlight it looks pretty good, in others it doesn't match at all. I'm happy it's protected. I'll just paint the whole truck when it needs it.

Looks super man. Really good! Have you considered painting your bumpers? You’d nearly have a new looking truck!!!

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
The back driver side brakes locked up hard on me the other day when I slowed down for a yellow light. I've had it happen before, but not like this. I left an 80ft black stripe on the road along with a trail of tire smoke in the air. Point of the story - it's at a reputable local mechanic for repair. New rear drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, axle seals, and all necessary brake parts.

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Back from the mechanic, and the brakes are fixed. Gave it a good wash and wax before taking it to the downtown Oroville car show. It's not winning any trophies, but I did win a $50 gift card in the raffle!

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Brakes started making a ton of noise all of the sudden. Back to the mechanic!
Update: A broken spring fell out of the rear passenger side drum when they took it apart. They fixed it and got it back to me within a day. Last edited by jimbosprint; 06-12-2019 at 12:04 PM. |
