Good economical solution for the radiator Kees. Your space looks great! Something about a nice shop space gives me the warm fuzzies. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanks Doug!
I’m very happy with the new shed! The downside is that I haven’t time for my own truck I promised the sis of a good friend to build a nice motorcycle for her, so I will. Then the Burb of a clubmember is in my shed, that’s a big car!! This didn’t come through technical inspection, must be repaired first, we’ll see when we going to do this. I have some repairs going on the Mustang of my son, almost ready with that. On top of that, we brought the 1935 Ford Five Window to my shop. This car is also of a clubmember, who is somewhat ripped off by a Well known Hot Rod Shop here in the Netherlands. That man didn’t stood up to his promesses. So we pulled out out his car. Now I have to make a driver out of it. So, shop is full What are friends for, right?? Good thing is that both of these builds don’t have a deadline, otherwise I couldn’t do it with my body, see it like therapy Pic #1 happy me, finally loaded up Pic #2,3 on the road, 60 miles to go Pic 4,5 awesome Offenhauser equipped Flathead goes into the 5-window

Thanks Jim, happy pics are the best!
Steve, my son drives a ‘77 Mustang II! The car nobody wants... It drives fantastic by the way, 302V8, automatic. His first car, I think he has the same deviation as his dad You’re right about the Offenhauser Flathead, really cool engines!!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanks Mark.
We have to check everything that the so called “proffesional” Hot rod shop had done. I’ll keep you updated on the things we do. Should be fun when we get building! Edit.... Maybe I need your help on some things along the way. You US guys have way more experience than I do with these cars....

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
In it’s short life here in the Netherlands, the truck already had such different loads to carry.
From garden furniture when there wasn’t even a floor in the bed, to different motorcycles, engines, matrasses, bicycles, wheels and tires...and lots of trash Last Saturday, my niece asked if I could help her with getting a chair from Amsterdam. Sure, why not So I got up early, picked up my niece and went to central Amsterdam. Loaded the beautysalon chair, and went home. Boy, did we get some attention in Amsterdam As if they haven’t seen an old truck in their entire life It’s good to be on the road...

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanks Mark, Jim!
Jim, you wont recognize the city nowadays, it changes while you stand in it... Let me show you some pics of the brakes and suspension of the ‘35... I will not talk sh*t about the “Professianal Hot Rod Shop”. I know the Dutch readers will know this guy.. This is only the beginning to get this right. This is the first thing I looked at, very promessing for the rest to come. Pic #1 brakeline, it’s copper, so it has to have clamps, especially in this kind of area... Pic #2,3 he had ordered the wrong size brakeshoes. If you do your homework, you’ll know that 2” brakes does not fit stock ‘35 drums. I did find this info after 3 minutes on Google. You can see the drum scrape the shoe, also you can’t get the hub/drum tightened up, it won’t turn anymore. 1 3/4” shoes should have been used... Pic #4 crownnuts, I was thought the pins have to be in the crown, otherwise the nuts can come loose and and that is a bad thing when you talk suspension. I only had to make 1/4” thick rings to get the nuts where they belong, then used the proper size pins and it was ready to Roll. That isn’t so difficult? Pic #5 didn’t get the drums off, so made me a special 1935 brakedrumpuller... When you don’t have it, and you need it, make it

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Apparently the lack of good workmanship and getting good help is a world wide problem. Lucky the 35 is in good hands now!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Maybe you’re right Doug.
You don’t want to know how much money went to this shop, it’s a shame.... I try to do it with what I have and I try to do it properly. Only thing is I don’t have any experience with these cars. It should be a lot of fun though!!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
It's crazy how some people think these things are safe to do!
I am having issues with my latest project. The previous owner had stuff towels into the main body/frame support and packed body filler in it to cover the rot. Hopefully this will get a bit better for you. Mark

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Yes Mark, I think it’s laziness or indolence from some people.or they have no idea what they are doing.
The front brakes are the same as the rear. And the good man has overhauled the rear axle and the short block. Lets hope he did that the right way. The rest is bolt off and bolt on our way. We’ll see. I will post some pictures along the way if you guys are interested.

Interested! Even though it isn’t a truck, problem solving and good workmanship is applicable anywhere.
