Disc TO Drum Conversion Help

The title sums it up! It looks like I will likely be converting BACK to rear drums on my truck, specifically so I can have a functioning parking brake if/when I take out my Spicer 5831 (where the current brake is mounted).

So I am gathering parts, and have hit a little bit of a road block. I would like to mount slip on drums instead of mounting them behind the hubs. Is there any way to do it without changing axle housings? I have searched and searched, but am coming up empty. Does anybody make a backing plate spacer, or am I overlooking a simple solution?

Crap - what a brain fart I had!

The truck is an 85 K2500 with a full float 14 bolt swapped in. The rear is an early 80’s axle.

oh k now we get the info you need .

bad part is the pop off drum style is a whole different spindle bearing spacing . hub / spindle is whole different combo from the older setup .

so if you truly want pop off drums then you need to get the axle built for it and cut/weld spring perches and shock mounts to fit your older setup .

i found this out the hard way years ago with a disk brake swap kit i had all ready to go and the stuff wouldnt fit at all from my older press on drum style i had the rotors loaded on to already with new bearings / races / seals .

That's kind of what I was afraid of! The rear disks have worked well, but I don't really tow, do a lot of slowing with my gears, and have some 13x3.5 rear drum brakes waiting to go on.

As for the 5831, not sure what to do with it yet. I MIGHT keep it in the truck, but it certainly is not really helping me with my mileage. It is just good for keeping RPMs down.
