dual locking doors and single key for our trucks

so here is a question i have for all you smart guys here on this forum and i mean that its not a smart A$% comment you all are very helpful here.

Ok so my question is can i have both doors locking from the outside with a single key is there a kit? or can it be made to happen and not cost a premium to do it?

I don't know if im saying it wrong on google or what but my internet skills are failing me here on this one. So any help you guys can provide would much appreciated.

Re: dual locking doors and single key for our trucks

I got a full lock set from Brother's trucks for my 63. Both door locks, glove box lock, and new ignition cylinder, all with matching keys. It is a pretty decent kit, but one thing that does annoy me is that almost every day now you have to wiggle the key around until it finds the sweet spot. I'm not sure if that is because of using the same key only for the past year, or if it is just from wear of constant use. Either way, I really like being able to unlock the passenger side door from the outside.

Honestly haven't thought much about it. Probably should do it, but I don't know what to use so that the key doesn't get oily in my pocket.

Sorry Wolfman, I don't remember what the cost was. It was a birthday gift from my parents last year.

Dry Graphite is the best lock and key lube.

Absolutely correct on the dry graphite! Wet/oily lube will eventually dry out, but not before attracting and collecting dust and dirt which gums up the cylinder more.

Re: dual locking doors and single key for our trucks

I've had a local locksmith rekey my door locks to match the ignition. some may prefer this method so you can keep the original higher quality locksets.

on a tangent to this topic, IIRC in this era of cars/trucks, each manufacturer had something like 6666 possible key combinations. i was recently looking for a lockset for the rear door of my wife's 63 suburban to take in to get rekeyed to match the front doors and ignition, to my surprise, the one i pulled off the shelf from an old project was already keyed the same.

Lmc trucks states oem buttons won’t work on aftermarket handles I wonder if aftermarket buttons work on oem handles
