Re: Insurance Nitemare
I use USAA as well, and if I am in a wreck, I wouldn't claim it on insurance anyways. Unless I damaged other property or there was bodily harm (to people) done. When my truck met a ditch 5 years ago, I didn't claim anything on insurance and just fixed the truck myself.
Hagerty will do their best to make sure that classic vehicles are fixed to a standard that the vehicle owner is happy with. Whereas some other insurance companies that don't deal with "classic" vehicles won't care to make sure things are all good with a classic vehicle. A lot of body shops don't give a crap about how a classic rig is put together and frankly don't know the first thing about fixing them. Gary

Re: Insurance Nitemare
A few others have mentioned Hagerty. I recently moved my truck to them. I had it on my regular policy so I could use it as a truck, and after my kid had a rough patch our rates skyrocketed. Hagerty allows you to do “limited towing and hauling”. Meaning you can’t run a landscaping company out of your truck but you can make dump runs or tow your other toy from time to time.

Re: Insurance Nitemare
I'm a little late to this, it appears, but I just added mine to our Progressive Insurance policy. I listed it as a "pleasure" vehicle. They give you the option of "commuter", "pleasure", "classic", or "agriculture/farm". The "pleasure" option is basically weekend driver status. I just put liability coverage on it.

American Collectors Insurance. No problems at all, then again no accidents either!
Price is right and value was good for me. Mileage limit? 5,000 miles. No gravel/dirt trips, but only you will know... https://americancollectors.com/ Bill

Re: Insurance Nitemare
Thanks again for all the replies and info
went with American Modern Classic Coverage couple reasons, no one in my family would drive my 72 because ive got a 96 sonoma if they need to pickup or haul something another is coverage is better at least right now truck is new to me as a vehicle( ive done most all the work fixing it up, welding , disassenbly and assembly, all minor motor work(im not a mechanic but i get by)i did help in pulling and putting motor back in, had someone else recover the seat(not an upholstery guy but i know a couple, lol) so, me and the wife are the only drivers( this works ok) 3000 miles a year should be ok ins agent would like to see truck in garage but not a big issue at this time truck is insured for theft or damage with no deductible even covers $2000 worth of spare parts sitting in garage(new doors, new fenders, bedsides , etc) Thanks, this is why i go to this forum, might not always like the answer or answers but it does give you knowledge and a starting point to finish your project

Re: Insurance Nitemare
I know you already made your decision.
Both of my Corvairs are with Hagerty. They wouldn't insure my CJ7 because I mentioned I occasionally tow a 1950's military type trailer, maybe once a year. My K20 I put on my regular policy, just liability. I want to be able to drive and tow when I need to.

Re: Insurance Nitemare
Glad I found this thread. I used to have State Farm, until I quit driving for about 6 years. When it came time to re-establish coverage. I nearly fell out of my chair to find State Farm had gone from $168.00 for a 6-month policy (Georgia), to $248.00 per MONTH (New York).
Currently with Progressive, and $178.00 per month, until I find something else. Liability only, in New York. |
