TH350 Dipstick replacement? & funny parts counter conversation

I need a new dipstick for my TH350 in my '72 Blazer. So, based on a quick search here, several other threads pointed out the part might still be available from GM. I called my local Chevy dealer parts dept., and after explaining what I was looking for, they told me "I'm not sure Chevrolet made the Blazer". Needless to say, I didn't find the part.

Has anyone replaced this before and know of a good part number/source? A quick search around the usual parts suppliers show a wide variety that all look completely different and all say they fit the TH350.

Thanks for the help,
Jon

hat's actually pretty sad but in today's world the old school parts dept guys are mostly gone. Are you looking for the tube also, or just the dipstick?...Rockauto has 1 but no photo.

There are a few of us left, but not many. I've been selling automotive parts for over 45 years.

How hard is it for a dealership to post ALL the types of vehicles that they service up on the wall so that it is seen everyday by the employees? They would get so used to seeing it that they could quote them to you. Inexcusable!

I have the tube, so really only need dipstick. Although I’ve seen others post and recommend to get tube and dipstick to make sure measurement would be correct. I guess to make sure stick wasn’t too long/short for the tube.

And yes, it did not inspire confidence to hear the parts guy at Chevy dealership to ask if Chevrolet made the Blazer.

I bought a Hughes brand locking dipstick for a TH400, it isn't OEM but looks and fits good.

Thats a Parts Counter Dipstick for sure. A side note could be that the individual in question should be on a new trail by now.

Do you remember if it had the shoulder/grommet that the tube slides into at transmission or was it the o-ring type?

thanks

I recently installed the Grommet type. It has more area to help seal it at the tranny . Then I put some silicone around the outside of the tube for extra measure.

Re: TH350 Dipstick replacement? & funny parts counter conversation

When I swapped motors in my '72 Jimmy in the late 80's the dipstick was already not available. I bought one for a van that was similar shape but even longer which was ok, but I had my original silver soldered back together (it brake right where the little rim is that stops on top of the block) and it's still on there today.

The Hughes brand came with a grommet for the transmission end. I installed three of them in my cars last year.

GM quit using the TH350 in 1985 or '86. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't discontinued from GM.
