Rear cab rib asphalt
Ok, the title is confusing, but I was looking at the 3 ribs in the back of the cab that go from the floor up to the window area. One of mine is bent in, toward the cab, and there is some type of old asphalt coming out. The other two have the black asphalt stuff too, but it's not falling out where I can see it.
I have a rib to replace the bent one, but I'm wondering what material are you putting behind the ribs? How do you get it behind the ribs if they don't need to be replaced? Thanks.

im not sure if its asphalt or not,but I assume its there to prevent rattling of the panel against the ribs...the assembly manual should show it

That stuff is on the ones in the cabs I have and I could't tell you what it was originally.
It may have been saturated tar paper originally.

Apparently what I was calling "ribs" are called Strainers. The material used is called Paper.
I'm not sure from the manual, but it appears the Paper was installed prior to welding the Strainers in place. My confusion now is what is being used between the Strainer and the back panel today? I presume it has to be inserted prior to welding in the new Strainer. Is this right?

I have no idea what was back there originally. Some kind of tar paper or probably asbestos or something.
I used a high-quality silicone when I reinstalled mine. It drastically affected the "tin-canning" sound of the cab. LMC or BowTieBits sells all three ribs for like $35. And yes, I welded the top two spots of each rib, laid in my silicon bead, and then welded the bottom part to the floor. |
