99 2 Door Tahoe - help with motor question

I am active over on the 67-72 forum and have a question that is out of scope of knowledge on motors. I have the opportunity to purchase a 1999 2 Door Tahoe that has 117K mileage in very clean shape with automatic transmission, no motor in the vehicle. If I was to buy a used motor to drop in what would be the way to go just for a daily driver. Current motor is 5.7 Vortec, would a newer 5.3L match up to the current computer or does that need to be changed out? Thanks!

Re: 99 2 Door Tahoe - help with motor question

Ask a mod to move this to the 88-98 GMT400 section

The only direct fit would be a vortec 5.0/5.7 from 96-02.

A 5.3 would require custom engine mounts, exhaust, new wiring and pcm.

I have a 99 2dr and I bought a brand new 5.7l L31R replacement motor with a 3yr, 100k mile warranty for $1750 shipped to my door. I would recommend that route so you don’t have to mess with wiring and getting the LS to fit.

Radley Chevrolet is the place. Here’s the link but the price went up just a smidge.

X2, the 5.7 Vortec is a good motor, especially a new one.

Re: 99 2 Door Tahoe - help with motor question

Just curious why they moved it to the 88-98 forum when I stated it was a 99? Not a big deal. Just curious.

Re: 99 2 Door Tahoe - help with motor question

Because technically, the 99 2dr Tahoe body style is what is referred to as OBS, Older Body Style, or GMT400. This is the same body style as the 88-98. The 99-06 is what they call the NBS, New Body Style, or GMT800 and the 2dr Tahoe didn’t come in this style.
