Two questions

I am trying to prioretize my c20 project. Considering that I can work on it only on weekends (not all of them ofcourse) I need to go one step at a time. At this point since I have some problem with carburator, I guess that is the first step. Next is electrical.
Now, first question is; I bought this 4 bbl edlebrock which I want to use it to replace the one I have (2 bbl roche). Is there any benefit to change the air intake too, whithout changing anything else on the engine for now? I believe if I don't change the intake I need to use some kind of adaptor for new carb, is that right?
Second question is for the future; If I want to upgrade the whole electrical system, what type of HEI,Alternator and wiring do you reccomend or you think is more reliable? and how much do you think it will cost?

I would definately change the intake, you will be not satisified with the way the new carb performs with adapting it to a 2bbl manifold. If you buy new, edelbrock sells a nice low cost performer, or you could look around for one for sale here, or at swap meets. Just be sure to buy a square bore one, not one made for a quadrajet=spread bore.

Wiring, well, there are a few manufactures that reproduce them for our trucks, but I don't have any first hand experience with anyof them yet so my knowlege is limited here. Inquire with a few of the vendors on this site and see what they recommend. You also could try painless wiring, they may have something in a kit that would come pre wired for an HEI and a one wire alternator.

I agree - get the manifold. If you are on a real tight budget get a used factory 4 barrel intake.

Any HEI will work as long as its not off a computer-controlled car. I think you can go early 70's to mid 80's for an HEI. You can get a used one and throw on a new cap, rotor, plug wires, and coil for around $100. A little more if you get the higher quality parts. Change your plugs at this time too.

Get an internally regulated alternator. I would recommend upping the output too. You can do this for $100 easily.

I have boughta couple of hei's off this site for about 35$ used and a new one for 100$ so shop around... www.painless.com (i think) and all the board vendor's here should be able to help you out with a harness... There is also another good harness company but cannot think of the name right now..
