I needed another truck like I need a hole in my head - yet here we are!

Besides my '67 C-30 and a few parts trucks, I was almost out of the truck business a month ago. I sold my '68 C-10 and ramp truck a while back, and come close to selling the dually. A few weeks ago, somebody called me and told me about a '69 SWB (that ended up being my old shop truck) at a good price, so I bought it. Then one of my buddies had this '72 SWB and wanted an old body race car body that I had so I ended up trading with him on this truck. It's a little rough, but it runs perfectly, and is a turn key driver. It's a stripped down 350/TH350 truck. This truck supposedly sat a long time. When my buddy got it, the PO had put a new fuel tank and sender, new fuel lines, a new carb and an HEI in it. He lowered it and put the wheels on it, but pretty much just drove it.

I don't have the time or resources for another restoration project right now, but I may just drive this thing like it is. Embrace the patina look, and just roll with it! I'm not a huge fan of the 10" car Rallys, so I'll probably put some steelies on it and rock it. I'll probably pull the Horribley carb and put a proper Q-jet back on it.

It's funny - I was working up the deal on this truck the other when you posted your Blazer, and I was thinking "Hey, that color in patina looks familiar!"
The driver's side rocker has been replaced on this truck, so I'll see what I can do about trying to match up the faded blue. If not, I have a nice set of SWB '69 - '72 lower moldings I've had hoarded up for a while, and I'll fix all the spots below the belt line and add the molding to hide it.

I just noticed the rip snortin’ beast says that it requires 91 octane fuel. I’ve has some 72’s before, but never noticed that on the decal. It runs totally fine on 87.

I run premium in my trucks , It seems to run better . I'll have to take a look at my underhood tag on the Blazer now just to see what it says .

The sticker doesn't say whether it is Research Octane Number (RON) or Motor Octane Number (MON). I run 87 octane in my truck if I'm not towing, even though I bet it should be using the higher octane fuel. IIRC, the number on the pump at the gas station is the simple average of the two octane numbers. I use the higher octane fuel when towing. There is probably less detonation because of the addition of alcohol, which burns cooler.

I agree!!!
Finding a 71 or 72 for a fair price, would be a no brainer for me. They drive and ride similar to a modern pickup, then having disc brakes, they are safe to drive for anyone, regardless of driving experience. You could sell easily as is, or do some easy upgrades and sell for more...OR keep it!!!

Nice..... you don't need to wash and wax it. Was the grill surround painted? I've been thinking about mirrors, those look good.

No, it’s just dull and faded.

Nice shortie! I have a lwb equivalent and it’s one of my favorite trucks (I kinda like the “sweaty look”. Hopefully you can enjoy it for a while

Thanks!

The driver’s side rocker and floor area was the worst thing about the truck, so I cut all that out put new inner and outer rockers, and patched the floor.

I’m loving driving this thing around. It runs so nice and is quieter than anyone I’ve every had. Maybe I’m getting old!

Here’s a clip of it purring: https://www.youtube.com/upload

I also swapped out the Holley for a proper Q-jet today. I’ll probably leave the HEI, but I’ve got to re-route the wires under the manifolds like they’re supposed to be.
I’m also going to put a full metal fuel line on it.

Nice find and I like your approach on the truck! Original steelies would look great and would keep equal dignity with the rest of the truck

I don’t know why, but I have never been a fan of the 10” chrome car Rally’s on these trucks, though I kinda like them on squarebody trucks.

I’ve always done white steelies on my trucks, but I’m thinking about trying black ones this time. I’m not sure yet.

Also installed a factory air cleaner and spacer.

I’m playing with some wheel spacers and I think I like the narrow steelie spaced out. It obviously needs a taller tire, but I like the look. I’m still not sure about the black rims though. I may have to go with the tried and true white!
