Master cylinder cap/gasket
I just had my brakes checked by my mechanic and he says I need a new master cylinder cap - the gasket is bad. He was unable to find a local one.
After searching on line and this forum I am still trying to find a high quality gasket. I believe the cap is original and would like to keep it and just start with a new gasket. Members of this forum, on another thread, suggested a Dorman part #42071. I checked the website and it states it's not the correct one for my vehicle!? I am going to keep searching but any help would be greatly appreciated! 1971 C10 disc/drum (no brake booster) Thanks! |

Any automotive parts store should be able to get one for you. You might even be able to get an original GM one at a local GM dealer. You might check this one out. https://www.classicindustries.com/pr...s/dr42071.html Scroll down and it lists the vehicles and master cylinder types it fits. LockDoc

Re: Master cylinder cap/gasket
Skip the autoparts store and go to a boneyard. Also grab the clips. Just dealt with this and after trying many, I jumped the fence and grabbed one off an old cadillac.

Re: Master cylinder cap/gasket
I didn’t get that one from amazon but I got one locally at an auto parts store. They said they didn’t carry master cylinder gaskets but then I found it on the shelves with the generic stuff. They are pretty popular master cylinders. I assume that one would work fine. If that’s the shape of your master it should work. Plus amazon has a good return policy.

Re: Master cylinder cap/gasket
Thank you all for the help. My mechanic tries to use all OE equipment so I'm pretty sure he checked the dealership first.
I'll keep looking. Thanks again!! |

Re: Master cylinder cap/gasket
Local Oriellys ordered me one and had it the next day. Only about $6.
Dorman 42071 for a 1970 C10 with 4 wheel drums.
