14-bolt Parts Compatibility
All right, long story short, I threw away the axle I needed, kept the axle with the diff I needed, and bought an axle I thought I needed.
Truck in question is a 74 C30 Dually. The axle under it currently is a SRW 14 bolt with an open 3.42 out of a 93 C2500. The axle I just picked up (without doing any measuring like an idiot) is a dually, open 4.09 that appears to be from a cab and chassis (meaning its the stubby 63.5 WMSW instead of the 72 dually.) My question is this: how much of these two axles can I hodgepodge together and how close will it get me to the 72 dually with 3.42 final drive?

Re: 14-bolt Parts Compatibility
you need the 72" wms to wms drw wide axle housing as the tubes and shafts are wider .
if you cant find one and need to be close g-vans up to 1995 i know can be had with a 70" wms to wms then some swaping work with parts and welding axle backing plate flanges further in for the brakes to work on them for drw hubs and brakes . but you will be 1" each side to narrow compared to the correct wide drw axle . also check motor homes they get a wide axle under them . i have one thats a dana 70 and around 74" wide . as to the guts swapping thats super easy to do on the 14ff axles . so look for the housing width you need and swap in your 3.42 guts.

Re: 14-bolt Parts Compatibility
The majority of the 72'' dually axles were Dana 70HDs

Re: 14-bolt Parts Compatibility
Srw and c&c narrow are the same housing just hubs and brakes are different . The wide drw axle is its own animal . You can find 14ff units but most were Dana 70 hd rear .

Re: 14-bolt Parts Compatibility
By measure the WMS on the C&C is shorter than my single and shorter than the previous dually 14ff.

Re: 14-bolt Parts Compatibility
Cause the hubs suck in the wms but the shafts and bare housing are the same like I said .
