14 bolt FF conversion from 1970 k-10

Hi guys,

I know that this is been asked before by others and also by me I think, but I’m looking to put a 14 bolt full floating rear. axle from the 77K 20 into my 1970 K 10. The half ton, does have leaf springs.

What is all involved besides switching out the spring perches, and I assume the U-bolts. Would the spring hangers need swapped and the mounting location on the frame changed?

Also I’m looking to do the front axle swap with a corporate 10 bold or a D44 8/ lug depending on what this donor has. I’m going to look at it tomorrow. As always. Any insight, criticism or otherwise is alway appreciated

Thanks

You’ll need to move the perches and a shock mount for sure. I’d bet you need a conversion u joint as well. I bought new perches and shock mounts from ruff stuff for my K20. The front should bolt right up.

Ok that’ll work. Thanks!

I would drill the top of the spring mount to move the axle back 1”. This centers it better in the wheel well than they are from the factory. It also helps account for the pinion being longer on the HD axles. With no lift on the truck, the driveshaft may be too long. With a lift and pushing the axle back, usually works perfectly IME.

Maybe a dumb question, but are you also swapping the front diff? Seems like a good idea.

Yeah that’s the plan. I want to put 3/4 ton axles under the truck swap out the 1/2 ton ones found a 77 and a 78 k20 donors with the 14 bolt full floating and a corporate 10 bolt on the 78. I haven’t looked at the 77 yet. I’d like to pull both front and rear axles so the gears would be the same in the 3/4 axles

When I did mine I just used these: https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com...g/14PERCH.html
And these: https://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com...g/SBRKT-3.html

I don’t think they had the complete kit at the time. I ordered this stuff at least 2 years ago. I just used the oe bottom plate that came from the ho52, and new u bolts. That kit looks like a good buy to me though.
