Hello, New to the board.
I am looking to buy a 1972 cheyenne swb or lwb 1/2 ton truck. I prefer a 4x4 but realize that they are somewhat hard to find and plan on converting a 2wd to 4wd if I cannot locate a 4x4. I plan on a total restore of the truck that I buy but I would like to start with one that has good sheet metal if it is possible to find such an truck. I live in the southern part of Ohio across the river from Ky. and would be willing to travel a reasonable distance of say 500 miles for a good truck. Would appreciate hearing from anyone that knows of a good truck for sale.
Thanks Don |

Look at autotrader.com and Ebay. Start with a 4x4, it will save you lots of time and money. Pay more to get a truck with little rust and damage if possible.

HI! Welcome to the board from Wisconsin.
I would suggest in spending as much time as necessary to find the right truck. I have heard of people looking for several years to find the high optioned truck of their dreams. If you must convert, (which will then only have intrinsic value to yourself, as someone looking to buy a clean short bed 4X4 will most likely be turned off by a converted truck), you can find many canadates to start from. You can also convert a base model to a Super Cheyanne or CST by adding the required options and typing out a glove box option sheet (also available by board vendors). Good luck with your search, and glad to have you around |

Welcome from Southern Indiana! If you find a good clean 2wd body you would probably be better off to swap the body to a 4x4 frame rather than converting the 2wd. I might be able to find you 4x4 lwb frame.

Thanks to all for the welcome.
Jamie72, I will keep your offer in mind on locating a frame if I have no luck in finding a 4x4 truck. 71swb4x4, I think you are absolutely correct in that it is better to buy a truck with very little rust and no damage to start with. I plan on doing a frame off restoration and while I realize it is very difficult, perhaps impossible to reach perfection I will strive to get as close as I possibly can to that end. Thanks again to all who responded to my post. Don |

Welcome to the board, I just bought my 71 chevy from Dean, he's in your area there. Hauled it 600 miles home. Of course I installed a new bed and cab, still have some issues with the front clip, but it's coming along. Keep looking, definetly start w/ a 4wd frame.
