4x10 speaker likes or dislikes ?

I picked up some stock corner speaker brackets and was wondering what speakers you use and do they perform that well . I,m not a boom boom kinda stereo guy but would like something good. Stereo shop says I wouldn,t be happy . He suggested 4 inch speakers instead running 2 per side but now that,s double the price 4 speakers instead of 2. I just like the clean look of the corner speaker brackets.I know someone here makes the 6x9 brackets but that would be another 100.00 to here in Can.

I’m the one who sells the 6x9 and also 6.5 cab corner brackets. I can tell you both are leaps and bounds better sounding than than 4x10, and there are tons of speakers to choose from on the market. Yeah, you’ll spend some money, but you will be happy in the end.

Don’t waste your money on a 4”x10” speaker. Get the 6x9 brackets if you want cheap and loud, go with 6.5s if you want a good sound quality. There are tons of options in both sizes and even the cheapest in both will out perform the highest quality 4x10 speaker

Re: 4x10 speaker likes or dislikes ?

I am using the same or similar OEM brackets with some 4x10s. If what you are after is a basic stereo setup, they work well. Don't remember what brand speakers I went with, bought them too many years ago. You will have less bass thump but in the small truck cab, usually not a problem. I did have adjust the rear cab wall out a bit to let the speaker magnet fit. A couple of well placed hammer blows did that. If you check before drilling your holes, probably could use some spacer washers instead. The OEM speakers those brackets were designed for lacked a bit in magnet size.

What ever size you decide on, pick a speaker with a high sensitivity rating (number). The higher the number the easier it is for the speaker to effectively convert power into sound.

The sound of the 6x9's big different over 4x10's in bass and mid tones. Only about three choice of speaker for 4x10's.

Re: 4x10 speaker likes or dislikes ?

I love mine, using them with the Custom AutoSound Radio. I have tweeters in the A-pillars too. I think mine sounds fine, but I’m not blasting or thumping down the rode either.
Last pic is kind of dark, but I carpeted the cardboard tool tray and the speaker brackets. And then painted the speaker grille to match my color interior.

@bigblock73, would there be room on a corner bracket to put 2 6.5" speakers vertically in each corner bracket? it looks tight but it looks like it would almost fit.

Yep, get 6x9's.

Cheap 6x9's sound better than the best 4x10's you can get (and there aren't many choices in a 4x10)

Re: 4x10 speaker likes or dislikes ?

I bought some 4x10 Boss speakers but had problem with only one side playing. I switched to 6x9 sony and did sound a lot better. I also had a small two way amp on both and bass was better on 6x9. I think a amp is a must to drive any good speaker IMO.
