dump body manufacturers in 1948?

where do I start trying to identify the manufacturer of the dump body for my 1948 ton and a half? I'm assuming this is a relatively local truck to NC, but I haven't got my title search results back yet to know for sure.

I will post some detailed pics tomorrow, but would love any links.

The PTO and dump bed operate from two unmarked straight levers in the middle of the cab next to the seat. They look almost home made, which is entirely possible, lol, but the dump bed is very well done.

Thanks for any input!

Re: dump body manufacturers in 1948?

I'd think that the manufacture of the dump box was at least regional when it was installed.

It looks like Triangle Body works has been around since 1927 so it might be worth checking with them to see if they made dump beds in the early 50's and if they have photos of what theirs looked like or if they can say yes/no on yours. If they have some older guys still with the company they might put some light on it too

Re: dump body manufacturers in 1948?

there weren't that many dump bed manufactures, look for any identifying marks on castings, pump, gearbox
if the bed is original to the truck there is probably a plate riveted near the gm id tags

if you find any wood, GW or Gar Wood, he was big in detroit for many years

Re: dump body manufacturers in 1948?

I had the bed up today getting my exhaust installed, and found "THELEN" on one of the brackets. Ring a bell to anyone? Haven't found much on Google.
