Grounding straps.. what's needed?
So I'm at the parT now where I am attaching the ground straps before I do my initial start up. Grounded the harness at the battery negative cable (since moved to the back of the block) and I ran a strap From the Block to the frame and from the back of the block to the firewall (edited) . What other straps are needed?

Re: Grounding straps.. what's needed?
Not sure if a reworked stock harness or what. But does your harness have engine ground wires itself like a stock harness that usually ground to the back of the head and/or bellhousing bolts?

Re: Grounding straps.. what's needed?
damn smart assesLOL AT the PART!!
Im using the stock harness I reworked. at the harness Igot three gounds mated at the back of the passenger half of the block next to the Head.. got the block grounded to the firewall at the motor /tranny mount. and gounded the engine to the frame at the now missing a/c compressor mount location. also grounded the battery to the engine. should I ground the battery to the body as well ( at the fender) or is it not necessary?

Re: Grounding straps.. what's needed?
I'm glad this is all cleared up, I was going to post last night but was confused on exactly what was going on.
I would ground the body too. On mine I ran one from the battery to the core support. I have alot of stuff grounding to the core support so I wanted a good path. Stock setup included a wire to the passenger fender I think. |

Re: Grounding straps.. what's needed?
I’m with y’all on this, do that one more direct battery to body ground and I’d say you’re golden except for one spot that’s not related. I always add an additional frame to bed ground so I guarantee all my sheetmetal has a solid ground

Re: Grounding straps.. what's needed?
All of my original start up issues were due to poor ground on the LS. I have battery to frame (ground down paint), battery to motor, frame to motor, 2 firewall to motor and I used the biggest cables I feasibly could. The Battery to motor and grinding down the paint on the battery to frame were the ones that cured my non-start issue. The frame to motor was just an add-on after the fact to make sure I had plenty.

Re: Grounding straps.. what's needed?
This is what I made.
its like #10 flat tinned grounding strap. I soldered the connectors on. Its was a lot cheaper then buying them already made and you can make custom lengths. I bought a 25' roll and the connectors on amazon or eBay.

What width did you buy? For a 25 foot roll, Amazons pricing is kind of weird, the 1/8” is $18. 1/4” is $20. 3/8” is $54. 1/2” is $100.(EDIT) elsewhere on Amazon for $25. 5/8 is $98. 1/4” Ring terminals are $9. for 25 pc. Thanks ...... - Brian

Re: Grounding straps.. what's needed?
Cool. While on Amazon I noticed there is also the same kind of braided strap, but in copper. ( without the tin added ) do you know if there an advantage to either? If my memory serves me correctly the factory ground straps were just copper.
Thanks again! Brian

Re: Grounding straps.. what's needed?
I went the tinned copper route as it does not tarnish as fast. Stock was raw copper.

Re: Grounding straps.. what's needed?
I ripped all of the ground wires out of the stock factory wiring harness to show people what they all look like, there are three grounds and they are all connected together, it's all one continuous ground circuit

Re: Grounding straps.. what's needed?
once I reworked my wiring harness I did it in such a way that all my 3 factory grounds bolt to the back of the driver side cylinder head as well as the ground strap which runs to a bolt on the firewall to ground the cab, trucks runs amazeballz
