Re: 1987 Fuel Sender Conversion for LSx Swap
i did a 87 sender / tank on my efi swap . did the acdelco ep381 pump for 1996 vortec 350/5.7L spec truck . it was a direct swap on the sender for the tbi pump .
for lines i did nylon like late model vehicles use . i got a dorman master builder / repair kit . i used the compression to barb for the sender and cut off the factory bulb at the end only . then ran my lines and installed my fittings and full pressure test when i was done before i set my body on and she has been great now for over 3k miles prob close to 4k miles now .

Re: 1987 Fuel Sender Conversion for LSx Swap
Custom Walbro 450 mounts for stock sending units. Searched for products and nothing..
Close up Presses on with some effort and stays put. Can be rotated if needbe to accommodate offset pumps. No welding needed to install it either. You could but not needed. Clint

I had the thought that I was going to set up each tank as its own single tank set up. I was planning rather than using the the stock type tank selector unit to just run individual set ups. Let me try to explain. Left tank to left side fuel rail and right tank to right side fuel rail. Obviously I was using aftermarket intake with billet fuel rails and a single forward mounted cross-over simply line. This way the stock style selector switch could run as kind of supposed to, left right and center, I was planning to use a burb/blazer rear tailgate window 3 position style switch. Figured if I set up each tank as its own single tank system I could run like stock, using the center switch position to run both pumps at same time in a race/strip/dyno situation. Truck was going to be twin turbo so figured a little extra fuel might come in handy. Was planning to use corvette filters and anti bleed back fittings in the lines so that when excess fuel from left tank returned to tank it couldn't over fill the right side. Might sound silly but I was 90% sure it was going to work. This is the route I intend to follow on my 75 when/if I ever get to it. Just foods for though.

Re: 1987 Fuel Sender Conversion for LSx Swap
I just added a length of line from the sender to the top of the frame rail and used a Dorman 14689 GM Axle Transmission Tube Vent Breather 1969-2002 on the end and zip tied it to the frame rail.

Re: 1987 Fuel Sender Conversion for LSx Swap
I just converted my 85 this weekend.
The OEM vent is 5/16. It is now the return line. The OEM return line off the mechanical pump is 1/4. It is now the vent line. The 87 sending units use a 1/4 vent line so it's meant to be! My vent line t's both my tanks in back and goes to the charcoal cannister up front. Working great. |

Re: 1987 Fuel Sender Conversion for LSx Swap
So your tank fumes just vent underneath your truck? How's that work in closed spaces?

It is rarely in closed spaces long enough to notice any smells...

Re: 1987 Fuel Sender Conversion for LSx Swap
I just used 1987 blazer tank and fuel pump then swapped out the pump its self with a acdelco ep381 from rock auto. The sender already had threaded ends which then I had to add adapter fittings to connect to AN fittings and lines. My truck was a return style fuel system. Everything seems to work great
