1966 c-10 v-8 mounts
Installing a 383 in my 66 Panel, been off the road since 1997, I threw away the engine mounts years ago. I had a 350 in it,was pulled out in 1997 so no mounts to match for new ones. so I figured I must have had 6 cylinder mounts on it as the mount pedestals have only 1 hole on the flat surface. The engine I now have is about 450 horse so I got the aftermarket pedestals for regular mounts with the long bolt sideways. they were a ***** to install had to actually drill new bolt holes in the frame. The engine now tilts upward looks like a altered, doesnt look right. I am concerned and have not driven it yet.Has anyone had a similar issue? Thanks for any comments,Paul

If you use late model engine mounts and perches, you have to trim the upper frame.

Re: 1966 c-10 v-8 mounts
Post some pictures. That will help. All you needed to do was get a new set of mounts for the side of the engine and bolt the engine into the truck with the perches that were in it. The inline 6 and the V8 used the same perches. Note that the 292 has a different mount on one side. If it were mine I would put the stock perches back in and put the correct mounts on the engine and be done.
Jimmy Here is a link to show the mounts that go on the engine for the stock perches. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/p...del/c10-pickup

Re: 1966 c-10 v-8 mounts
These were advertised for a 66, when I mocked them up they lined up with the factory bolt holes in the frame, once the engine was bolted up to the mounts
they were off, so I drilled new holes. They are the short urethane mounts, I rather not use rubber mounts , It would be a lot of work as I have the brake lines going thru on one side and the engine is ready to fire, guess I am in denial and should go back to stock,I would have to lift the engine up quite a bit,Thanks guysl |

Re: 1966 c-10 v-8 mounts
Im going through this now with my 66, I cut my drivers side engine stand a few years back to clear a header tube. What I learned while looking for the drivers side stand was, I had 6 cyl stands. These 6 cyl stand will be in the back hole under the oil pan. The v8 stands I picked up Saturday mount in the front hole under the oil pan ,This hole is closer to the frame rail.

Re: 1966 c-10 v-8 mounts
What you are talking about is true for the '67-'72 trucks but NOT the '63-'66 trucks. The 230/250 I6 and the small blocks use the exact same engine mounts the exact same engine mount brackets and in the exact same rear location.

Let's say that's true, and it may be. Then why would chevy
Have two locations drilled in the chassis that matches Two different stands in a 66. |

Re: 1966 c-10 v-8 mounts
Yes it is true.
The forward holes in the passenger side frame are used for the 292 I6. I assume they are present in the drivers side frame rail as I am thinking they used the same stamping for both frame rails. Just the forming was the opposite direction. And then there is the GMC V6. I honestly do not know which holes those use as I have never owned a GMC with a V6 still in it.

Re: 1966 c-10 v-8 mounts
This is my mockup with the v8 stands, the bad news is
I already had my exhaust finished. These stands raised the engine and moved it forward 3/4 in. Last edited by LTZMAN; 12-21-2019 at 11:14 PM. |

Re: 1966 c-10 v-8 mounts
I just went through this in my 66
a big block came out and i installed a Late model 350 V8 I had to make accommodations . It was hitting the manifolds and wrong angle on the pad Had to add !" on top and 3 " on bottom to use both Top two Bolt holes and The lower sloted Bolt hole... I don't know if this is my final Mount's..... But it does the job . .

Re: 1966 c-10 v-8 mounts
Soft patch I would just get a set of stock stands and put in the truck. They are not that hard to find and your engine will be where it should be.
