My King Ranch seat swap

That came out excellent! It gives me an option for my seat. Question- does that seat move? It doesn't look like it does. Since only my son and I drive it now, that might not be a problem.

No. It does not slide forward nor backward. The seat bottom will fold "up" to access under-seat storage, and the seatback also folds down too, but there are no intermittant adjustment points. Like you can't "recline" the seat, or change the lumbar support, etc.

Thanks. That branding tool was hard to master. But it was a fun touch to complete the look and dump the King Ranch logos.

I’m 6‘0“ and weigh in at 170 pounds and have really long legs. The cabs of these trucks have always been a bit small for me. Add to that I have back and hip problems, I could never do any real long trips with the stock seat. Your swap it seems like a Serious consideration for me. What is your own height and weight? Do you have any body issues that you’re dealing with like myself? Overall rating of where the comfort is now? Thanks a lot for posting such detailed information!

Hi Steve. We sound similar. I am a bit taller 6'2", but also a lot heavier (210 lbs.) Please review my first post and note the measurements that I posted in the before and after shot.

The biggest differences I noticed are:

1) I sit lower in the cab, and therefore I can now see out of the middle of the windshield, rather than the top 10% of the windshield as I did previously.

2) More of my upper leg/thigh is supported by the bottom seat cushion.

3) The seat seems to sit more "upright" whereas my stock seat seemed to be 5-10 degrees more tilted or "reclined" so to speak. (I don't like that part of my seat swap.)

Thankfully, I do not have any real body issues as of yet. I'll be 50 this year, so I guess that will probably change pretty soon. With the old seat, during long drives I would sometimes cramp up at my legs and shins because of the angle where my foot met the accelerator, but now that problem seems to be gone.

Overall comfort? I would say much better than the original seat, but still not as comfortable as the aftermarket seats that TMI and Snowden sell. Those TMI/Snowden seats have a reclineable seat back, whereas my seat does not recline at all. I hope this helps. If you need more information just ask.

That's a really cool idea and it turned out great. I personally like the logo swap. That's out side the box thinking and now I suspect more guys will b using this idea. The under seat storage is a nice bonus. U know these cabs are kinda tight and getting something like that makes a big difference. Nice job.

I contemplated embossing the leather, but my test stamps were not visible enough without also using some sort of leather dye to make the embossing more dimensional/visible. That said, I imagine results would vary with different types of leather. Thank you for the feedback.

Thank you. I contemplated a TMI or Snowden seat also, because of their sheer comfort. I really like how they feel. I was trying to save money which is why the KR seat was a good option. I consider it a win, and I am very pleased with the outcome so far. Thanks again for the feedback.

Thanks for the kind words custom10. Yes, my tank is still behind the seat. I plan to remove it someday in favor of a below-the-bed mounted tank, but I probably won't get to it until next year. I am working on a budget, and the tank I want is a little spendy. Thanks again!

The seat fit without any real headaches. I had to cut down the length on the three "legs" of the support bracket, clean my cuts, touch-up paint the bracket, and drill six new holes on my cab floor. Costs:

KR Seat (salvage yard): $200
Leather conditioner (O'Reilly's): $10
Grade 8 hardware: $7.50
Branding iron CNC fee: $150
Upholstery shop for labor to sew on the new branded logos: $200
Total: $567.50
