55.2-59 Gas tank sender problem

About 3 years ago I installed a CCP rear mount tank and their 30 ohm universal sender and a new replacement gas gauge. Well... it never worked properly. The needle on the gauge would sluggishly show 3/4 with a full tank and just below 1/2 when empty. I studied the threads on the subject and ruled out the usual suspects, proper grounds,ect.. Finally pulled the tank. Plenty of clearance for the arm to move in the tank. When the float arm is manually moved from full to empty the gauge works perfectly! The arm on the sender binds slightly,enough to prevent it from moving thru its full range in the tank.
Not sure if I should try to fix or just buy a replacement. Hate to reward the manufacturer by buying a second to replace their poorly made product.
Has anyone had a similar problem with an aftermarket sender?

I had a bad one that did that same thing, then quit working completely, luckily I had a spare one that I replaced it with, and it has been working fine.

you say the arm on the sender binds. could you bend the arm slightly to cure the problem?

I tried turning/loosening the what appears to be a brass nut that holds float arm, I only turned it a small amount as the arm of the rheostat also moved with it. The float arm now is moving free as it should be. Looks like it is worth giving the sender another try.

Check it with the OHM meter before you install it.

It tested 2 to 32 ohms, not sure if it was like that or if it changed, after I messed with it. Should not be a problem, I just installed Dakota gauge set,its totally adjustable. Thanks
