63 GMC gauge cluster

Has anyone tried to adapt the dakota digital to the 63 gmc cluster? Im looking at the dakota digital vhx gauges and they are for chevy only. It doesnt look like a chevy cluster will fit in the gmc dash, so just wondering if anyone has modified their clusters to fit.

the dakota digital is made for a stock 63 chevy bezel, the gmc bezel is more less all one piece with the gauges. just wondering if anyone has cut up a gmc gauge cluster and adapted the chevy gauges to it

You'd be the first I have heard of. You should post pictures and make a thread out of it. We could all learn something.

Re: 63 GMC gauge cluster

About 25 years ago I made a custom center panel to adapt a DD streetrod gauge panel to a GMC bezel. I don't have any pics but that is likely something you will need to do. Does DD make a smaller vhx panel that you like and would fit inside the GMC bezel?

Re: 63 GMC gauge cluster

The Dakota website does not have dimensions so hard to tell. Here are photo's of the the DD gauge cluster front and back.

Here is a 60-61 GMC metal gauge panel with the cluster removed. Your cluster is probably the plastic 3 hole version.

They are interchangeable and you might be able to use the early one to adapt the DD VHX.

I was going to add a Boese overlay to use aftermarket gauges as I think CaptainFab was suggesting.

Re: 63 GMC gauge cluster

Cant help with exacts but I saved a pic of a GMC with what looks like an aftermarket chevy cluster awhile ago. I kept looking and couldnt find much info for the GMC dash so I'll probably be going down this rd at some point but I'm thinking of putting the plate and gauges on backside of cluster and just trimming the center of stock cluster out.

Re: 63 GMC gauge cluster

wondering now how close the 64-66 chevy cluster is to the 60-63 gmc?? it looks like the sides and top corners could be a little closer in size or the pic I was looking at was off.
