rear drum options

tried searching first but didn't see an answer. has anyone with the wider "HD" rear drums ever just swap the drum with the not as wide regular drums? I see that the backing plates for the HD are off set a little more inside. so I'm assuming if I put a regular drum on it might not sit all the way into the dust cover lip but should still work just fine. the reason for all this is the 10" wide 15" rims we had made will not sit flush against the HD drums, but will sit flush against the regular ones. Let me know if you've swapped drums, and how it turned out. thanks.

Edit: found a solution, the aftermarket drums from autozone dont have the same giant edge that the factory ones had. so the wheel sits flush now. all good. ignore.
