68 k20 frame questions

I was able to get the bed removed from the k20 yesterday and am remembering all of the things that had me on the fence buying this truck. The rear crossmember is bent from someone trying to drag the truck by hooking a chain on it. Not a big deal, I have a good one on my parts truck. Above the rear tires there appears to be a broken bolt into a nut that is welded to the underside of the top of framerail. There are 2 holes with nuts welded underneath in this location, abot 6-8 inches apart on both framerails. Are these factory or some modification? I also see 2 threaded studs facing each other in front of the rear tires, can anyone inform me of what should go between these? I know the front and rear axles are from a mid 70s k20, and it appears they did a decent job with relocation of the spring mounts. Just unsure of the couple of things I mentioned above. Bought the truck mostly disassembled so thought I would see if someone might know. Thanks.

Re: 68 k20 frame questions

The threaded studs are the upper shock mounts, it doesn’t appear your rear axle has the lower shock mounts welded to it. You can buy shock mounts from ORD or Ruff Stuff among others. I’ll go back thru my pictures to verify the other holes.
Edit: my truck doesn’t have the other holes.
Come visit us in the 4x4 section some time!

Re: 68 k20 frame questions

Thanks for the reply. I just completely missed the fact there were no rear shocks installed. Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of in this conversion? I need to make sure they have a good pinion angle. Spring mounts seem tilted forward but maybe they are supposed to be that way. Thanks for the tip on a vendor for the shock mounts.

Re: 68 k20 frame questions

Making sure the pinion angle is correct and the rear is centered in the frame. Mine has got a 14 bolt from a mid 70s truck.
