exhaust question

The 72 truck I have has a BB 402 with midas factory dual exhaust all the way to back about 6 years old. I would like for it to sound a little meaner but dont want to install headers(cost). Would it be too loud if I eliminated the big fac. style mufflers and installed straight pipes in thier place or put glass pack cherry bomb style mufflers in place of the big quiet mufflers.Still would have the duals piped all the way to the back.need advice

Sure, a higher flow muffler set will wake up the sound.

It would be a good solution. You'll get to keep all of your existing dual system and just splice in some louder mufflers. It will be a quick, easy job for any muffler shop to do.

Ask around about some trucks you hear that you like the sound of. Everyone has their own preference as to what sounds best. Some fellows like Flowmasters, some Dynomax, Hooker, Magnaflow, etc....

a 6year old exhaust system?? if it's alive and in one piece i'd leave it alone becayse if you start disturbing it the next thing you know is you're replacing the whole damn thing

Straight pipes are loud as hell, I'll tell you that. I fired mine up with nothing but the y pipe that stopped at the carrier bearing and the whole truck was literally shaking because it was so loud. I pissed off a lot of neighbors, too, 'cause I did that around 10:30 at night. I've got a cherrybomb glasspack at the end till I can get duals on it and it sounds sweet, even with the stock exhaust pipe setup.

Dyno max superturbos are a reasonably priced, good flowing muffler(14" body). for about 35 a pop through summit or jegs, then you add a set of 3 1/2 x 16 " chrome or stainless cans at the rear & you will have a nice sound. best of luck, crazyL
