Well I'm sitting here at the tire shop. 2 new tires for the front. They are balancing all four tires. Gonna take it for a spin and see how it goes. I'll report back in a bit.

Ha ha. Yeah, it was the tires. The tech said one of my tires needed almost 3 ounces of weight on the inside. So after the rebalance everything is pretty smooth. Except I think I already lost a weight on one of the rear tires. Was driving home lastnight heard something pop up and hit the wheel well. Then the rear of the truck was kinda bouncing down the road. I think I'm gonna take it back to the tire shop and ask them to double check the rear tires. I told the tech I always seem to have problems with the weights falling off. I dont know if it's because they're young guys and maybe not paying attention. Or theres something wrong with my rims. They are original stamped steel 5 lug rims. They got at least 4 or 500,000 miles on them.
Just want to say thanks to everyone for helping me figure this out.

If you are missing a new weight ask them to use the stick on weights. The ones that have an adhesive backing.

The problem these days is there are a bunch of different kind of clip on wheel weights. Some for alloy wheels. Some for steel metric rims. Toyota even has their own special sizes. Most tire jockeys just grab whatever is handy without a thought as to if it fits correctly.
The old ladies Lexus has to use the Toyota specific weights. The inside of the factory rims have a terribly rough cast surface and stick on weights won't stay stuck. The last straw for me at Les Swabe was the tire technician telling me there was no differences even after I showed him a printed copy of wheel weight differences. This was after having lost 3 wheel weights in 3 days. Since they didn't care enough to do the job right I've been spending my money elsewhere for the last 10 years.

We used to put a vehicle on a lift and spin the tire. Looking straight on the tread face a broken belt would squiggle out of tread alignment. It's kind of a pain but you can do the same with a floor jack and second pair of hands.

3oz of weight in one spot indicates a pretty significant error that weights may not fix.

Bigdav160, I kind of thought the same thing. But until I can make up my mind on a new set of rims I'm kinda stuck with what I got. If I had the means I would pull the tires off the rims and give them a good hard look myself.
Would bad shocks give a rough bouncy kind of ride? If I jump on each corner it settles within 1 or 2 bounces. On the rear I have leaf springs with caltracs traction bars and rear swaybar. The shocks are kyb gasajust and only maybe 2 years old. The shocks I took off had no action at all in them. It was like sliding two tubes back and forth over each other. Lol. Truck drove great though. Now it's a lot better obviously. With the new stuff on there. I wonder if I have my suspension too tight and it's working against itself causing it to bounce and not settle. Or crappy roads around where I'm at. Been tracking my brain trying to figure it out. At least i can do most of the investigating in my driveway now that i got the tire situation figured out.
