Aftermarket 4 speed tilt column..

So I’m gonna be needing a 4speed tilt column for my k20 build and I know they are pricey and hard to find original. I did see some of the aftermarket companies are selling them so my question or is an aftermarket one gonna be decent quality? Anybody ever buy one or have experience with one?

Thanks
Clayton

Re: Aftermarket 4 speed tilt column..

I got a rebuilt GM truck tilt column from Les (70shortfleet). I originally had a TH350, but swapped in a 700R4 last year. I got the 4-speed indicator lens from Les also. Fortunately for me it was just a short drive across town.

Re: Aftermarket 4 speed tilt column..

I got a rebuilt column from Randy500 (no longer on the board, unfortunately) for a pretty reasonable price. I think I paid $150 for it and I haven’t looked back. My old column was so bad the ball bearings were falling out when I turned the wheel!

Point is, I think you’ll be happier if you rebuild your current column yourself or find one someone already rebuilt.

Re: Aftermarket 4 speed tilt column..

I might add that I originally bought a CPP aftermarket tilt column. It felt cheap and a bit sloppy, so I "upgraded" to a rebuilt GM column. In my opinion it was worth the difference in price.

Re: Aftermarket 4 speed tilt column..

As far as buying a new 4spd tilt column goes, I'd talk to Frank Hamm/Frank's Pickmups. I bought one from him to paint. They are Flaming River columns, better than other reproduction columns. They are bolt-in ready, set up specifically for 67-72 GM Trucks.

Re: Aftermarket 4 speed tilt column..

Had one built to my specs by Kevin with Kevs Classics. Super happy with the quality and the price. Perfect fit, looks factory perfect, no issues at all.

To answer your question. I would only buy a Flaming River tilt.
Now though you have herd about the guy's here that sell old tilts refurbed. I would buy one of those if possible.
This one came from Randy500 as well.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
