69 gmc drum brake front hose question

Howdy,

Rescued father-in-law's 69 GMC C1500 from the field and installing all new brakes. Master, lines, hoses, wheels cylinders, hardware, shoes, everything. The only issue I'm having is the front hose to wheel cylinder. The hose end at the cylinder is an inverted flare and the wheel cylinder is definitely not a flare fitting, looks like pipe thread but is 7/16-20. Is there a fitting that goes between the two? Been to all the parts stores and they only carry the same parts I have. The inverted flare fitting does thread into cylinder (though it is sloppy and I'm sure it would strip if I put any torque to it. Anyone else run into this?

Factory 2" drum brakes front and rear. No mods. Keeping it all original for now. Here's a picture of the hose end that goes to the cylinder.

hi,i'm not much help,i was going to say, perhaps you had the wrong hose but i looked up the hose for that truck and you have what looks like the correct hose.i doubt there's anything between the hose and the cylinder.you do have the copper crush washer i'm assuming?i'd say you have the wrong hose or the wrong wheel cylinder, has to be one or the other if the hose doesn't fit the cylinder?i'll watch to see what you come up with.Greg

Re: 69 gmc drum brake front hose question

Well, turns out I just need the washers. Would be happier if the fitting on the hose had a few more threads on it to make the connection a little more secure. Going to soak the old wheel cylinder and hose in penetrating fluid to see if I can get them apart and find out what the factory parts look like. The flex hoses for my 66c20 are almost identical, but have about a quarter inch more thread on the hose.

Re: 69 gmc drum brake front hose question

that's good news.i have no experience on drum brake trucks, all mine have been 71 or 72 with disc brakes but i have worked on lots of cars with drum front brakes and i never saw anything between the hose and the cylinder.you won't need a million foot pounds on those hoses, the copper washer will crush easily and that makes the seal.take care.greg
