Wiring floor shift reverse lights
For those who have gone from a 3 on the tree to a 4 or 5 speed floor shift…how did you handle the reverse light wiring? I’m looking heavily at the new Tremec TKX and noticed kits for our trucks come with the reverse light switch and what appears to be a bare wire “pigtail” on the end.
Are you supposed to tap this pigtail in to the wires in the rear light harness under the truck? Or run it in the interior under the carpet to where it plugs into the bottom of the steering column? Does anyone make a factory gm connector to put on the Tremec switch pigtail where this could be plug and play? |

Re: Wiring floor shift reverse lights
Anyone? How is the reverse light wiring for factory floor shifted 4 speeds routed? Does it plug into the same rear light harness that three on the tree and auto trucks plugged into? Or was there a rear taillight harness specific to floor shifted trucks?

Re: Wiring floor shift reverse lights
I went from a 3 on the tree to a 6-speed.
Just fine the original reverse light pigtail and wire in the new one. TKX will have the switch on the driver side of the trans. One side of the pigtail needs 12V with ignition on, other will connect to the reverse light wire you already got. I went from a 3 on the tree to a 6-speed. Its really simple, don't overthink it. Heck wiring that switch up is a lot easier than swapping everything to make that TKX work. Bubba |

Re: Wiring floor shift reverse lights
The factory 4 speed backup lamp wiring was literally a pigtail that plugged into the backup lamp switch on the transmission and the 2 position plug for the column switch backup-lamp/neutral-safety switch.
The clutch starter interlock switch used a pigtail that ran from the clutch switch to the neutral safety switch plug. Both of these pigtails are shown in the gm wiring diagrams.

Re: Wiring floor shift reverse lights
I have a muncie so I used the Hurst reverse light bracket that came with my new shifter and attached it to the stop bolt in line with the reverse rod on the rear of the shifter bracket. Simple set up but works flawlessly. I know You have a different set up but I wanted to mention how the 4 speed set up works on my truck. I connected the end of my switch to the original reverse wire in my harness.
