Re: OCHRE 72 K20 Restoration

Here are a few pictures of the suspension going together. I'm using the original axles. I have replaced all of the bearings, seals, bushings, and joints. The majority of the fasteners and hardware seen in the pictures is original, I just plated it. I used SS inline tube products for all of the lines, and upgraded to braided brake hoses due to the 2" lift. Off Road Designs helped me put together the correct Billstein shocks for this application with the small lift. The power steering box was new when I purchased the truck, so I cleaned it up and painted it.

Re: OCHRE 72 K20 Restoration

Wheels are back on, and transmission and transfer case are in place. The wheels are for roller-use only. I have an original set of wheels and NOS hubcaps for the build. I haven't decided on tire brand or size as of yet.

Re: OCHRE 72 K20 Restoration

Just read thru the entire thread. WOW, your doing an awesome job. Can’t wait until you get to the interior, that’s kind of my thing. I love seeing the interiors transform also.
I’m usually over on the 73-87 side of the board, but occasionally I wander over here to check out these beautiful trucks also. Keep those updates coming, and I’ll be following along.

Thanks fellas, very encouraging.

Sneak Peak at a future project, and part of what has me side tracked from time to time.

Re: OCHRE 72 K20 Restoration

The motor is now installed. I purchased a set of OEM extreme bend tow hooks from a board member (Madipie03) and installed those. I plan to strip the after market tow hook bolts and re-plate in correct factory finishes. They are not original bolts, so if anyone out there is willing to help a brother out....., well. I also purchased the GM stamped upper radiator hose pieces from a member (WETOWM) to use with my upper radiator pipe. I used an internally regulated alternator, and will be using an original style American Auto Wire harness that is made for this alternator. As I mentioned before, there will be some future tweaks to the accessories on the motor to make it a little closer to original, such as the HEI distributor. The exhaust manifold stove is from Paragon, and it's application is for a later model corvette, but it looks good and original, and fits correctly. It's pretty close to what it should be, just had to flare the stove pipe a fraction on the stove end, and it works great.

I welcome any criticism in regards to things I have missed a little on when it comes to originality, such as the ground cable location, which someone has already pointed out. Hopefully the comments I receive will allow me to get things as close to original as possible.

Until next time....
