GVWR Plate

I'm looking for information about my truck, but it appears that part of the GVWR plate is missing.

You can see the bottom rosettes, but the plate is about 1/3 of what I've seen around here, so a lot less information. Anyone have any idea(s)?

Re: GVWR Plate

My FiL had the truck registered as a "housecar" since it had a camper shell. That way he could get non-commercial plates, and save some money. It also meant people could consume alcohol in the back. Niiice, since there are no seats or seatbelts. They used to go camping with people riding in the back! Your door jamb is shinier than mine.

Possible it got accidently pulled off when exiting vehicle, belt loop on pants hooking on to an edge that wasn't flush.

Hey, where's the bottom part of my GVWR plate?

True story. My FiL used to drive pulling the camper with a can of beer in a holder mounted on the door of the truck. One time he and his wife were coming back from camping and my MiL spotted a box at the side of the road. They stopped to investigate, and sure enough, someone had dumped a box of kittens. They found a ranger and told him, and he agreed to take the kittens to a shelter. He spotted the open container, and told my FiL, "You look like you're OK, but dump that beer out!". That was probably 30 years ago. Now, it would off to the hoosegow.

That's funny but in Florida up until 1988 you could go to a drive thru convenience store and get a draft beer to go while sitting in your car , it was legal . and up until 1985 you only had to be 18 to drink alcohol in Fl And drive

Re: GVWR Plate

Thanks! I wonder why mine is missing? Maybe it's been decertified and I can only carry 1/2T of cargo and tow a 4' X 5' trailer. Guess I shouldn't be doing this-

Re: GVWR Plate

What is odd is the vin # configuration on this plate, it appears to have been altered. Does your '70 have the blue vin# decal on drivers door?

Not to worry! Altered by me via MS Paint to cover the actual VIN. I can see where that would be concerning.

Upon consideration, it's probably best that the GVWR plate is missing. I'm going to get the truck weighed one of these days. I'm pulling a 6000 pound (dry weight) travel trailer, and the maximum trailering recommended capacity is 11k pounds (10k pounds for my truck, in stock configuration). I'm betting that I'm over by as much as a ton.

Re: GVWR Plate

Correct me if I'm wrong or not comprehending, but your GVW is already stated at 7500# the plate you are missing is this bottom one.

Oh, yeah, duh. I need more caffeine, or new glasses. Maybe both!
