what shocks are the best???
ok time for new shocks what ones are best? i have a non lifted 4x4 (1985) and i want some COMFY shocks i want it to ride nice and smooth and easy like a cadillac ooooooo... drooool...
 err anyways so what ones are best? what about kyb's gr2 gas shocks lmc has them for 35 bucks a shock and they say for "riding comfort"... i dont want to spend too much either  lemmy nojohn~ |

I like Monroes and KYB's. I'm on my first KYBs. It will take at least another year to see how they hold up. I've used Monroes for years. They tend to last about 3 years. Not sure on KYBs.

I'm getting those exact shocks john; the KYB GR2 gas shocks for my 80 C10, my cousin has gas shocks on his mustang, if thats comparable

The shocks on that thing will help with bounce and wallowing but it will not do much to improve the ride becasue a lot of the ride problem is 400+ pounds of unsprung weight and almost no uptravel on the front suspension. My lifted 75 rides better then my stock 79 ever thought about and both run the same brand shocks. The extra up travel and the 35's socaed up a lot of the harshness. Problem is now you really feel it wallow. This ride like a caddilac is exactly the complaint that cause solid axle 4x4's to go away. People wanting cars that look like trucks. If you want caddie ride then go buy one. Persoonaly I have gabrials on the K5 and I put Bilstiens on the 88 3/4 ton 2wd burb. I am reall happy with the Bilstiens. I could take the shocks completly off the front of the k5 and not notice.

And to extend what Grim said, the coil springs and leafs on a truck are sprung very stiff for towing on many trucks, but not all i am pretty sure. My dad always is telling me how new shocks on ol red make it ride as good as a car, but it has soft springs, not HD, and its a C10, so when the socks go it bounces up and down and up and down. I can't wait to get the KYB gas shocks

cool i think i might go with the gr2 kyb shocks.. anyone have any experience with fiberglass springs? there is a site on the web espo or something like that they sell them.

i don't have front shocks on my truck, with the added weight of the big block, i didn't notice at all, on trucks you really just need a really good set on the back, because of all the weight that is up on the front of truck

The best shocks? My personal experience has shown the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks are tops. In fact, I love the set that I've been running on the Suburban the last 3-4 years so much that I put a set on the Jeep this year. They really do soften up on the rough stuff and stay firm on the smooth. Cornering and stability when towing are both improved. I love 'em!
 They are a little pricey, though...

KYB Monomax shocks. I really like them on my 96 Tahoe (IFS I know). They are supposed to be a good truck shock. Anway, they are 42.61 from pickproparts.com. Shippping is cheap, I've ordered a couple of sets from them in the past. FYI, GR-2's are 21.58 from them.
