Steel bed to wood bed conversion

Did a search.

Looking for information on converting MY steel bed to a wood bed. It's a long fleet side.

Can somebody please point me in the right direction.

I want to remove my steel floor and install a wood bed

I thought I saw something on you tube but cant find it

You will need a different front bed panel (height is different), and the underneath cross sills. Aside from the wood and strips everything else should be the same.

The cross piece on the rear by the tailgate is different with a wood floor as well.

SmokeyRoad Rod Shop has a kit that lays on top of the steel floor.
I am using their bedwood kit in my 70.
But, mine was originally wood to begin with.

I know of several vendors who can supply the parts for wood beds.

Has anybody done such a conversion?

I had mine done when the rest of the truck was done. Steel to wood. I had picked up a long bed from a wrecking yard with new oak, kept the floor assembled standing on it’s side in the garage for 20+ yrs. Cut it down to a short bed and used it in my truck. Therefore had everything needed. Front panel, Lower supports, and the rear cross sill. Looks great. Good luck. Mar-K is a good choice for materials.

So what's different between the two front bed panels?

Some vendors for truck parts have posted video's on the differences and they state that while the front bed panels are different the steel floor panel can be used after a simple modification that removes some sheetmetal .

Can anybody explain this.

My floor is metal

The height of the panel is what is different between the two. The wood floor panel is longer at the bottom to account for the thickness of the wood. You would need to either cut the bent metal lip off and then make up a new lip for the strips to bolt to.
