Did they TRY to make these things ugly?
The camper mirrors, that is!
I can't imagine anything more hideous bolted to the side of the doors.. I mean, good lord! It just ruins the whole flow of the body. I gotta watch where I park to avoid scraping them on other cars! And not only do I gotta tear these things off, I gotta fill the multiple holes they drilled for em! AHH! Just my nightly rant.

I just put the original west coast jr mirrors back on my burb, but I installed them with nylon nuts and bolts so if they get hit, they will break away with out doing any body damage.

I don't think those ones look so bad.. it's THESE ones:
I've seen scaffolding less substantial than these things. They must stick out 3 feet.

Da-burb....I had west coast mirrors just like 68's, cleaned them and painted them. I was going to get replacement mirrors and actually found them (68....I can get the company name from the store where I was looking and catalog#). My wife wanted chrome mirrors that werent monsters so I took em off. If you want my old west coasts, they're yours>>>

The City of Tucson took care of mine! They put up tall reflectors in a construction zone a couple of years ago. I drove thru and the reflectors were ssssoooooooooclose together they took out BOTH mirrors! LOL
Bought replacements from Rick's, nice, small ones.

All I can say is my mirrors make my ears look SMALL!
What pisses me off about them is they NEVER stop jiggling up and down as you motor on down the road. I've pulled both, and reset them with stainless cap screws and lock washers, and they still jiggle. The doors' sheet metal is just too flexible. Also, one of mine has a pit in the center of the glass that turned into a crack. I was going to replace the glass, until I tried messing with the rubber around it. I realized if I got the rubber out I'd NEVER be able to get it back in. Why spend the time when I'm going to get some "cool" mirrors later.

I have a set of nice Clamp-on's that fit on the front fenders that I use when I tow my boat.

I like the big mirrors. I guess the truck has to big to match but my truck is big enough. I was planning on getting west coast style but my dad said they were too big and I settled for a set of camper style. I plan on trailering and hauling anyway so they will get used. Those little mirrors just aren't the same, I can't get used to them. I have to keep moving my head around to see if anyone is behind me. just my two cents

I'm with you MJN! I like the big camper mirrors. My old painted ones rotted away on my 71 C20. I have been looking for a replacement set for the 69 Longhorn for a while now.

I have the swing out mirrors on my longhorn and if you tow anything the are great. If you are in town some alleys are real tight. I try to park in remote parking lot areas as some folks like to punch them if they walk into them. Broke more mirror just sitting parked in lots than any other time. Some people just have no respect anymore.

I also hate the big ones...they seem to hide more to the front then they show in the back, besides, I was always tought to look over my shoulder than rely on the mirrors.

ok- I didn't read all the posts, but if you can't drive a truck- get a car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The mirrors are fine, they don't look too bad (I like em'- except for the rust on the elbow), you can see lots in them; like the cops on the on ramps to teh highway... and man.... If you want to repeat that you can't park with them after I have told you that I can get into a spot about 3 " wider than my truck, I dare you to in here (remember- I'm a chick!! LOL) LOL

Yea, the rust suprised me.. option sheet says they're stainless, but I think the elbow was something else; almost looks like it was chrome plated, because it's peeling. Kinda strange..
I love driving a truck, I just don't think these quad-pod type mirrors look good. I like the tripods, and the west coast style..

ok what's the deal....
The first pic in here is similar to mine- but at the moment, it not being in my driveway, I think it only has 3 posts to the door...
I know what the little (car) mirrors are, but what's a west coast anyway??????????????

Just to let you know...stainless isn't supposed to rust but depending on the grade of stainless steel, it could happen but shouldn't be a rotting rust like steel rust. A good grade of stainless should keep it's luster for a long time and then maybe turn dull to a darker dull, thats the oxidation. Rust....maybe not stainless?

Kirsten, there are Jr West Coast and the West Coast mirrors. 68 Suburban has the West coast mirror brackets but not the correct mirror heads. This picture of Andy's burb have what I believe are the factory Jr West coast mirrors.

The small factory mirrors look better on a truck but aren't worth having. If you don't plant your butt in the same spot everytime you can't use them. I have the big mirrors on my C20 work truck and love them. I can see when I'm backing up!
