What did you get done?

It's a little later than normal for this thread because I just finished up my day. I didn't get much done on my trucks besides wash a few of of them.

My wifes Grandmother passed away this week so I had to clean our drivers up for the funeral. I detailed the Dodge on Friday and went to the viewing to visit family and old friends. The place was full because her Grandma was "Memmaw" to everyone she met. She had a gazillion grandkids. Some were kin, but most were just adopted.

Saturday I had to detail the Denali since we needed to drive both trucks to the funeral home. Saturday afternoon we put a very sweet lady to rest.


The rest of Saturday I spent running service calls. I did stop by a local cruise spot to check out the rides. The weather was awesome so everyone was out. There were a bunch of sweet rides hanging out and enjoying the cool air.

Today I had a guy come over the refinish my front door. It takes a beating from the sun and weather so after 4 years it needed to be refinished. I just had my house painted so the door really looked sad. I just finished installing a new handle and lockset. The brass finish on the old one was in shot, so I put a new "Lifetime Finish" set on.

I also cleaned the coils on my a/c units today. The a/c crew that did my annual check up wanted 195.00 to clean the coils. I just saved myself a few bucks and did it myself....

What I did...

On Yeller, I did some more wiring inside the cab and continued working on my new(er) dash pad. I also went to the driving range, purchased & watched Kill Bill Vol 2, mowed the grass, cut down a tree, watched NASCAR, and sprayed the lawn with a mole repellant...hoping to get rid of the sunnovabiches!

Installed a tach & steering wheel in my 84. Installed a tach, gauges & steering wheel in the kids 69 & also got his running(W/my motor). It runs bad but it runs. Ill install new plugs & wires on it tomorrow & flush the tank. I want to get it running perfect in his truck before I pull it & put it in mine. My tires, rear step fenders, tailgate, windsheild & a few other misc parts should be showing up one of these days, so maybe Ill be able to drive my truck by fall. ...corn

Fixed a few rattles and squeaks inside the truck (it annoys the gf).

Finished up the steps on the back porch, mowed the yard, took care of my Grandmothers' dog (Grandma in the hospital), spent some time with my girlfriend.

I got the front suspension all bolted together on my RestoRod & bolted up the rear end as well in anticipation of its big move this week.

I also finished up the boxing plates & c-notch pieces for my 74. I was going to attempt welding it all in but once I started w/the bed bolts, I realized I should have soaked them w/penetrating oil earlier. I do this stuff @ night by myself & the bolts wouldn't co-operate . I went ahead & sprayed them down on Sat. I then called my brother & he's going to help keep the tops in place while I unbolt them all, then I'll just put 1 regular bolt in front & 1 bolt in the rear through the frame so that they are the only 2 things holding the bed on & it will be much easier for me to get it apart on my next attempt.

washed / waxed ol red friday. looked at the wiper washer pump and hoses for 2 minutes, gonna dig into that next weekend. discovered i was sold a defective fog light from wal mart, gotta go beat an exchange / refund outta Custumer service. getting hype for school which starts in 9 hours and counting....

tryed to build a center console like swerve, gave up and built my own, got everything in the system wired and crimped and ready to go, i turn on the key, and a really anoying buzzing sound was coming on over everything no matter the volume, so i disconected the EQ and it went away, now i need a new EQ, so now i just have my 3 6X9 again, im hoping for bass sometime, i also rebuild my spare case, and then switched them out, took it for a test spin, works great, its shifts a little soft, but its still getting all the air out, can't wait for it really shift hard!

What I didn't get done . . .

Got my quarterly commision chack and was gonna hit Summit & Pick-N-Pull for some stuff. But My EXSTEPFATHERUNCLEBUCKBUDDY-N-LAW called from Boomtown casino. SOooo, the Blackjack demons devoured my Truck fund. Had fun though.

I did discover that the (corroded) chrome trim strip in the windshield gasket is likely an important part of the sealing process. "Cos we had a rare 2 hour thunderstorm and I needed wipers on the INSIDE. LMC will hear from me soon.

the only thing i did to the burb was take a picture, and got a call from the machine shop that their new dies for the crank turning machine are in from europe and they can finish my machine work now.

I fixed my carb to an extent. The truck runs ok enough for me to drive now. I am still waiting on an 86 vette computer / wiring harness for the TPI, two sensors, a couple relays, a new set of injectors (they all got smashed on the ride up here), and a VSS. I've got everything else / everything else is in the mail.

I also started building a signal generator for the TPI's VATS system, I should be able to run the VATS in my truck if this signal generator works (there is no reason why it shouldn't...

Had a clunk show up in my 88 Sub on a vaction. Noticed it on some wasboard dirt road on the island we stay at. I looked for this problem a few times to no avail. Well it had seem to get worse since last time I drove the truck. Figured it was a ball joint going out. 3/4 ton suspension so it was impossible to get any sort of clunk out of it bouncing on the bumpers.

I knoticed just a little bit of od rust like dust on the upper shock mount of the Bilstiens I put on last year. Grapped a wrench and sure enough it's loose. Clibed under it and tightend up and noise is gone.

While under it it appears my oil leak has become worse. I think most of it is the intake is leaking at the back where it joins the block. So I guess it's time to get the gaskets and pull the intake off and reseal it. I hat pulling intakes.

But on a side not I'll probably need to replace those stamped steel leaky valve covers with them spiffy 454 perfoarmance covers to get a better seal.....well as far as my wife knows that will need to happen. :p

lets see.. saturday i went with 2 of 3 groomsmen, to get fitted for tuxes. About ready for this wedding to be done with. After that i went to one of my employees houses and aquired 5 tires and a a drivers side mirror for my brother-in-laws 86 s-10 blazer. On the way home from dropping the tires off at my in-laws I took a cruize through the country (they live in the country so it wasnt that far) At anyrate i came across a sign that said " Road May be Impassable Due to Bad Weather". It had rained earlier in the week so i took the road anways At first it wasnt bad, a few washouts and such.. then i came to the mud puddle. It was probably 50ft long or so. It appeared that someone had already been through it... i contemplated it for awhile then decided that even if i got stuck... i could always call my buddy in his 350 powered 1997 Jeep TJ. So i took off.. the mud was about 8" deep in spots. I almost didnt make it but these knobby ATs worked well and i made it. took pics of the truck afterwards but will be awhile until i get them on the net. oh and on the way to drop off the tires at the inlaws i found an 86 or 87 suburban 4x4 3/4 ton, with 125k miles for $1,900. it does have pretty bad rust on the rear fenders and quarter panels, but hell i would just cut if off and run larger tires. Just wishing i had the extra $2k...

on sunday i worked 13hrs, came home and relaxed..

I had a death in the family also this past week. It was my aunt who sold me my 76 last November. My uncle died back in February of 1988, and she's been waiting for all those years to go be with him. We had the visitation at the Funeral Home on Thursday night, and then the funeral on Friday afternoon. I had to clean up "Ol' Jim" as my uncle called the 76 so it could ride in the procession as a memorial to both my aunt and my uncle. She was 92 1/2 years old, and was ready to go, so it was actually a "joyful" funeral service if you know what I mean. We'll miss her, but she's much better off. Several of the nephews and friends recognized the old truck, but said they had not seen it looking that good in years. Kinda made me feel proud!

I did manage to fix my tailgate where it would stay closed this weekend. After installing a tailgate protector several weeks ago, the tailgate has not been closing correctly. I used my dremmel and fixed the protector, and then adjusted the latches on the tailgate so that they would catch better.

Then I went to my 2 yr old niece's birthday party at our church on Saturday and pitched a few games or horseshoes, and otherwise just enjoyed these unseasonably cool temps we've been having.

My brother and I spent from 9am til 1am Saturday and from 2pm til 12midnight piecing together and modifying a STS Turbo system for and extended cab pickup to fit his 2000 Silverado. He drove it home last night a little after midnight.

As for the 73-87 era, I pulled the Jimmy out of the garage....

Where did you get you computer? I am thinking on my Jimmy for the future I will want a 749 since I plan to turbo it, but I might get the 730/727 for now.

I put in over 275 2x4 studs into my soon to be finished basement. I got a great start on all the wiring and am now hanging recessed lighting fixtures.

I have no doubt that I just did a basic clean up compared to what the pro's might do. I actually wanted them to do the job until they quoted me some other prices. They wanted 295.00 to replace a start relay. They also wanted 22.50 a pound for freon just to "top the system off" .
If I had let them do everything they wanted my bill would have been over $1000.00 . I decided to get a second opinion and clean the coils myself in the meantime....

Well I ditchwitched and laid water and phone lines to the new shop, and I think I am finally done with the landscaping around it, ie no more dirt to haul, Thank Goodness.

On the 82 I just order a bunch of little parts, door pins, tailgate bumpers, front turnsignal housings to fix some little irratations. Then the, I fear bad, news. The 82 developed some sort of engine knock when my daughter took it on the Interstate to her aunts. I haven't found anything obivous yet, but I have a funny feeling I might be hearing a rod. This weekend will tell more when I have a chance to look at it. Sheeesh. and the engine, new long block, only has around 6,000 miles on it. I sure hope my initial guess is wrong.

Put a air cleaner stud and nut that actually hold the air cleaner down in my Chevelle, and I discovered my 85K10's timing was -3 deg BTDC instead of 8 deg. BTDC like it should be. My exhaust always smelled like gas untill i fixed the timing! I also changed my oil and found a busted cab mount(pictured in my last post)

That was the end of my 11-day weekend, which I spent 10 days of in Disney and getting hit with Hurricane Charley while I was there!
