It's almost done! pics of my 67 - plus a pic of my next project?
The glass is all installed and the bed is on!
YEAH!!! It's ready for me to finish putting the rest together! This has been an interesting experience to say the least, finishing a project somebody else started! I am constantly searching through boxes for parts, finding parts I didn't know I had and discovering parts I thought I had I don't. Here are a couple pics of the truck! Trying to decide between old Cragar SS wheels or finding the original hubcaps and going for that stock look. Now that rear bumper is gonna go, I want the original style chrome ones! And the next picture is a 1958 Chevy Impala that has grown into the floor of the garage. I'm thinking about acquiring it! ;-) It's all ready for paint but has no interior or trim. It does have the original engine and tranny though, should I get it? But how hard will it bet to get it to this status? thoughts?

Oh man....a 58 Impala is on my short list of dream cars. If you could pick it up cheap, do it. Doing a resto on it won't be as "cheap" as a resto on a 67-72, but then again, a 58 Impala isn't exactly in the same category. I say go for it!!!!
The 67 looks sweet btw

Thanks....It's been a long road to get here! Now the guys at Discount Tire looked at it and said they could get me brand new Cragar SS wheels for it....are you saying they aren't available in a 6 lug version?..:-( Yeah the Impala's body is perfectly straight, mostly because the body man had redone all of it some 10 years ago, and the owner disappeared never paying for the work. Unfortunately there is no interior and all the trim seems to be missing. Are parts hard/expensive to get for these cars?

I wouldn't say parts are hard to get for those cars, but definitely not dirt cheap. But then again, look at what you'd be restoring. A 58 Impala is by far one of the most beautiful cars Detroit ever turned out. I'd buy the car now, and worry about how much it costs to restore later....LOL You say the owner disappeared....what about getting a title for it? That's the main thing I'd worry about.....

Getting a title isn't a problem, the bodyshop owner that is owed money for his work can easily get a title for it.
That and the fact that it hasn't been titled in YEARS helps, well atleast in Michigan it helps.

I agree with 68 Stepside, '58 Impalas are truly works of art. If you can get it for a reasonable amount, jump on it!! You can pretty much get anything for those cars. Finding parts shouldn't be a problem. Only thing is, is they are a one-year car. Where the '55-'56-'57 cars were pretty much the same and parts could interchange (ie, decklids, seats, etc) and the '59-'60 were the same way, the '58's are in a class of their own. The frame is more or less the same all the way up to '64. But if you have no interior, you might have a bit of a hard time finding the seats. They are going to be '58 Impala hardtop or convertible only. All of the trim pieces are available reproduction but that can get expensive. Still, if you can, grab it!

Well the only thing holding me back is finding some place to store it.
The shop owner will want it out of the shop, that I am sure of! But I am working on finding some place to park it until I can start that project! Anybody have any idea what this car is worth? Like I said the body is GREAT, it's all in primer and has been for awhile, but there is absolutely no interior.

You say it has the original motor and trans? What are they? Any rust anywhere else on the car? Is any of the trim or bumpers or anything else there? Do you have any other pics? What is he asking for it?

Well as far as I know there are no bumpers, trim or interior there for the car.
I don't have any other pics, as you can see it's been buried for awhile. It isn't publicly for sale, but I believe I can buy it. He has made comments about how it is just taking up space. And today he made it known he needed the space my truck was taking up as soon as I could get it out. SOOOOOO How do I determine what it's worth? Hard to say for me...right now I'm planning on lowballing him and offer to take it as is with no title. First I'm calling Michigan Secretary of state and make sure I can get a title for it. I am sure I can, I have a friend that acquired a camaro this way. As long as it hasn't been titled a certain number of years they'll issue a new title. Almost sounds like I should buy it and re-sell it!! NAW!!! what's the fun in that?

Take a look at this. I figured that this one was probably in the same ball park. If I could buy this one for the current price, I would buy it and then take the guy out to dinner afterwards Maybe watch it and see what it ends up going for.
Sorry for the long link, I don't know how to do it any other way. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=39405

Oh, by the way, good luck sleeping tonight
Everytime I stumble upon something like this, I end up picturing myself driving it and all of the cool stuff I would do to it and I stare at the ceiling all night, burning rubber and grabbing gears on a car that I probably wont end up getting anyway

Very interesting.... I'm actually hoping to get it for less than that!
Time to do some research on the title situation and be prepared to write a check! :-) It also sounds like getting the interior will be hard...

Good luck with the Impala. Had a roomate in college whose brother in law bought a black one in 1970 for $350. It was a nice car and only had 52K on it. BTW nice truck.

If it's the original engine, it would have to be a 283 or a 348. Some (rare) had 6's in them. 409's weren't available until late '61. But yeah, a tri-power 348 would be a *****in' find!!

Sec. of State says getting a title isn't hard, process depends on the circumstances. Because it's in a body shop there might have to be a mechanic's lein involved.
I'll try to get more info today, maybe a picture of the engine bay would eb good.

1958 Impala pics
Ok the bodyshop owner says he'll let me know within a week if I can get this car. While the car has been there several years with no contact from the owner, he still wants to try to contact him first.
Sadly that makes sense.....hopefully he can't get ahold of him! :-) Greedy son o ***** aint I!? While I was there I snapped a few pics of the engine compartment, how can you tell if it's a 348 or a 409? I was told you can't tell easily by just looking at it. And here is a pic of the "interior" of the car, it's gonna need alot! :-( Damn I want this car...just haev to find someplace to store it until I get my next house! And no silvertonguedevil I don't want to store it at your place....I can read your mind! LMAO!!!!!

I must admit, I'm jealous but I'm rootin' for ya just the same. The engine is a 348 for sure. 409's weren't available yet. From the pics, it looks like it's a power pack car too (4bbl). Keep us updated and let's all hope the guy is nowhere to be found!! Oh, and I'll be clearing a spot for her
