Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Good decision John, I'm sure you'll love how smooth the t5's are. Not to mention better gas mileage

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Just a little update. After some hard work trying to figure out how to get the T5 in it finally happened. It's in! Last Saturday I want on a test drive to test it out. The trans works great! Shifts good, performs better than I expected! I must have sucked up some trash in my carbs because I had a major stall and had to limp it to the body shop. After a week of setting AC (fabricator at the Body shop) help me clear out the trash and get it going. Now after a big tune up, carb adjustment and linkage reset I'm running better than before. i still have to install the high hump, new carpet and shifter boot and the trans install will be done!
I had to remove the torsion bar x member to get the trans in. Not a good 360 pic but you can see that there is plenty of room now. Except I have to cut in between the top front tunnel cover bolts. This will allow the top of the trans to clear. If you have a high hump this cutting isn't required. Trans installed! As you can see the lower part of the T5 is what was hitting the torsion bar x member. It wouldn't allow it to slide all the way back into the x frame. Transcend shifter installed! Here is a shot when I went to pick up my truck.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
It was such an nice day Saturday I put on some trim rings and detailed under the hood. I am still having problems with the turn signals and parking lights and found out the turn signal switch is bad. None in stock so I broke down and orders a steering column and new steering wheel. Will post pics of the install.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Truck looks awesome. Question about your disc brake conversion. Who made it? And, do you have any issues with fitment or clearance with your wheels?

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
That lower bolt hole tab is going to get cut off flush with the rest of the tail housing on my S-10 tail housing when I go to re-install mine into my 62.
It doesn't serve any purpose on our trucks, doesn't add any structural strength to the housing and just serves to get caught on the cross member when installing or removing. I told myself when I yanked it all outta my truck (getting hung up numerous times in the process) that bugger was coming off before the tranny/engine combo goes back in! |

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
The make is CCP and this kit is for the 60-62 manual transmission. No fitment problems at all. The only problem with the kit was it doesn't come with instructions. So be ready to cuss a little on where things go. The front brakes clear the wheels with no problems.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
It’s been a while since I posted on this build. I have been working on a 57 truck that I sold in September, so now I’m back on the 62. I’m getting ready to start a big update on the truck. I’m planning on doing a V8 swap, front suspension swap, rear axle swap and A/C install. I already started putting the engine together. I have a 355 with a 480 lift cam going in the truck. The 235 runs great but I’m really wanting some power under the hood. Stand by for some updates.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Whoa. You're not kiddin around. Aluminum heads and all! I never saw your thread back in the day so I just read through it. I like how you've phased it. You made a plan, executed it, enjoyed the truck. Then did phase 2 when the time was right, etc. Great truck! I'm in to watch the updates. Also cool how your wife is part of the "truck team".

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Found a 78 C10 front suspension on line for a good price. Tomorrow I will start tearing it down and get it ready for paint and reassembly. Any advice is welcome on the 60-62 front suspension swap that would make it easier.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
It centers the wheel in the wheel opening better.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Thanks for the response. I was thinking of doing that but I’ll still be running my t5 trans and it will still be mounted to trans mount. I guess I could re adjust everything.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
If you don't want to mess with the engine and transmission mounts, you can do the caster mod which will help center the wheel a bit more and provide better suspension geometry.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I don't think people usually move the steering box or idler arm forward, but check other builds. I would only move those if the steering linkage is hitting the crossmember after the move.
The control arm caster mod is pretty easy, and WELL worth it (did it to my '77 and my '61).

Click on the link I gave you to the pdf of it. You quoted it just now.
It's from this page of my build: https://www.gwellwood.com/project-ca...apache-part-2/

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Made a little more progress on the engine build during the cold weather. I ordered a set of finned rocker covers from Amazon and added some engine paint. Really makes the engine pop! Just have to decide on a drive system and what I’m going to use for fuel delivery.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Your mail was full. I run Hookers HK- 2466 but they don't clear clutch fork. This is why I run a hydraulic bearing on the clutch

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Been a little busy on my 62. I removed the 235 and suspension and got it all sold. Next I installed the 78 x member power steering adapter, tube suspension and moved the shock mounts. I had a setback on what engine mounts to use. Thankfully the forum told me to use the 67-72 mounts. With some modifications they fit great. Set the 12 bolt axle and did the 62 modifications to it. I freshened up the frame and now it’s time for reassembly. I’m still trying to find out what accessory drive system to run.

How did you modify the mounts?
