I have one of those too, looks great with all that wood grain.

Also, that was the steering wheel everyone had when I was in high school so there is that nostalgia factor, too.

I was too p!ssed off to panic.
I was 45 Y.O. I had soloed a Cessna 150 when I was 19. I've been in worse places. Since I was still on the ground, and going about 20 MPH, making a turn -- I put the wheel back on the hub -- maybe not aligned perfectly, but enough to still steer. Guy behind me honked, but I had bigger things to deal with than jerks. I pulled into a parking lot and looked at the situation. The center of that Grant wheel was lead, [or potmetal] And it was maleable. I gave it a whack with a framing hammer, so it would stay on enough to get home, and got the hell out of dodge.
As soon as I could, I mounted the OEM wheel the PO had included with the deal, and never looked back.

I ended up going for the 15 inch because after getting a 17 inch wheel, putting it on the truck and sitting there for a second I just started laughing. It was so ridiculously big. I felt like I was in the driver's seat of a big yellow school bus.

I don't intend to offend anyone, but I find it comical when I see guys talk about the original steering wheels as being too big or referring to them as school bus or semi truck wheels. The 17" are just how it is in these trucks and school bus wheels are even bigger. I don't know anyone's age, but to me it shows how much younger many of you are. You obviously started driving once everything had power steering and steering wheels became smaller. It's the same as when guys come to these trucks and are afraid the truck will blow up if they drive 65-70 mph because they rev 2,500 to 3,000. Those guys obviously started driving once overdrive had become the standard. I've driven cross-country and back in these trucks at whatever speed suited me, school bus wheel and all

Lol, no offense. Yeah absolutely, it's what ever you're used to or have experience with. You nailed it, also, when I bought my truck, the 3 speed automatic transmission was toast so I put in a 4 speed because 3 speed sound like you are trying to kill them doing 70 on today highway speed limits.

Depends on the truck . I put the comfort grip on my 72 because it has power steering. My 68 I restored the original no power on this truck .

These trucks were never intended to go over 60 …. Can’t tell ya how many guys have said that to me . People have no clue

Yeah, the Large diameter helps leverage immensely when using Armstrong Steering.
67-68 wheels are 16 or 16-1/2''. 69-72 wheels are 17''.

I tried to put P/S on my '67 K/10 Suburban. Four wheel drive and a 454 BBC in front it was a beast to steer manually. But I screwed up and used a C/10 69-Later style P/S gear box. Steering geometry was all off, and it was shearing off 1/2'' grade 8 bolts from the frame. Couldn't pull a U-Turn from the Left Lane. So I tried to restore the manual box. Put a bead of JB Weld on the long crack over the case and hoped for the best.
I never could get it back to the way it was.
I got 1/2'' ID foam pipe insulation [''Donkey D!ck''] and put it over the 3 spokes and around the rim, and taped it over with black adhesive tape. The foam padding helped when catching the spokes as the wheel spun back -- straightening out from a turn. Kept from bruising my hands.
Someday when I rebuild that Sub, I'll put a post-MY '71 Dana 44 front end on -- w/ P/S and Power Disc Brakes. Two cures in one shot.
But working on the '67 Suburban isn't in the current budget.

here's mine .....was a 50 anniversary wheel I repainted and have the CST button ....as far as dating myself I cut my teeth on a (no CDLs back then) 66 Brockway with a 220 Cummings no blower and a 13 speed the steering wheel was the size of a covered wagon wheel and it was fun steering and shifting all day long and at night when I was dreaming .....Happy Motoring ....LOL

I had a Le Carra on my original truck to replace the one that was on it when I bought it in 2001 and kept it when I sold the truck and put an OBS one on for the sale. I put the Le Carra on my present truck after removing the original leather wrapped one , which is now wrapped up sans the leather and in storage. Couple years ago replaced the Le Carra witha comfort grip one which i like and looks great in the truck.

Nice already. I see you installed a vintage wheel cover at some point. Firstowner suggested one, and by chance I found one first look. Haven't seen another since.

Something about them stock wheels. Love mine and i plan on restoring it and showing it off. Hard to believe a repro is that much but they look great

Having driven a stock 1951 GMC many many miles with a 19" wheel getting in my 67 the 17" wheel seems small and driving my S10 with its dainty little wheel takes a bit of adjustment.

I've been thinking about putting a larger wheel in my new S10 since it has manual steering and the added leverage of the bigger wheel would be nice.

To me driving the GMC with the split windshield and the big wheel makes the world outside look better.
