Re: Sat for 20 years in a field - Original '70 Blazer

Thanks guys. I put the fuel tank in yesterday and all the various rubber line, fuel filler hose (that stuff is expensive). Had to do some bending and cutting to get it in.

I had a new tank that came with a parts truck years ago (almost threw it out after sitting around for 16 years) and it was for a blazer or so I thought. The fuel filler neck wasn't right and shot out right into a cab mount. After some love from my rosebud tip on my torch and a pry bar I was able to bend it enough to have a path to the filler neck.

Now onto brakes, shock mounts and it will be ready to test fire and see if it goes anywhere. I still anticipate a few weeks since I get to work on it about 2 hours a week max.

If your still looking for utility buckets Orange 71 Shorty has a complete restored set for sale in the Blazer parts for sale section.

Thanks for the heads up. I am going to try and cobble my sport buckets together and keep this as low buck as possible.

Passenger side seat is ok, the driver side is obliterated. Need to weld the back frame and try my hand at making some seat foam.

On that subject, are there any good protective covers (not upholstery). I Was looking at something like the carhartt ones or something similar. I want something that doesn’t melt to your leg that can get dirty.

Back on the road! I need some help on gas tank venting. Aftermarket tank has two vents, I used some small motorcycle fuel vents but can barely get the tank to fill. I replaced the filler hose and have it positioned the best I can get it. Not sure. Beyond that, seems to be running well.

Congrats! Looking good!

I too have my 70 CST Blazer back on the road after over 26 years. Felt good to drive it again!
