Re: 67 Camaro Build

6x9s are mounted under the rear package tray with some slight modifications to these spacers that came with the speakers. Minimal modification to the car itself so we don’t create any rattles with the installation (like cutting big ol’ speaker holes in the tray).

Re: 67 Camaro Build

slick speaker mounting. Still have the space for a factory rear window defogger if the car had it originally as well. What are you going to do the cardboard package tray on top to let the sound come through clean?

Re: 67 Camaro Build

Thanks, no rear window defogger. But yes, kind of, it’s a REM brand fiberboard style from Heartbeat City Camaro (link). I’ll post a pic of the backside next time I post and you can see the speaker openings.

https://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/...visions-Black/

I punched the hole for the backup light intermediate wiring harness. Also, fit the package tray cover (thinking it'll look pretty good), as well as the trunk divider around the mini-tubs. That black plastic thingy mounted in the trunk is what the bazooka sub mounts to you’ll see it in upcoming posts.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

I did the same with my '66 Chevelle rear tray. Mine has a lot more embossing around the speaker locations and a few hours of blending the spacers to them. I have a similar cover with the mesh that has perforations for the sound to come thru.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

I do like these covers, imo it looks cleaner with the speakers hidden.

A little 3M 90 Contact Adhesive sprayed on both sides finished up the package tray area.

You're braver than me, gluing the cover on over the speaker fasteners. I plan on using double sided tape, in case I need to access the screws again. Probably not much different for removal, but that 3M adhesive doesn't let go, when applied correctly.

Package tray looks sharp! Might have to something similar in our 61 impala just because its a odd color, so will have to wrap it.

What color is the interior ? Ciadella seems to have all the colors covered. I don't see premade package trays, but they sell the material to recover yours.

Good point, cuz you know those speakers will never go bad, right?

But seriously (Knock on wood), I don’t expect to be back messing with the speaker fasteners anytime soon. I’m fairly certain they won’t come loose with the nyloc nuts that I used. Some folks may not know the tray cover is only glued along the front edge to keep it tucked nicely behind the seat back. Removal shouldn’t be bad as you won’t save the cover, cut along the front edge and slide the tray cover out. Clean the area as best as you can and repeat with a new cover, easy peasy.

Thanks, I like it. Seems to be a good product, with a clean look, and a fair price.

The Bazooka sub is mounted and starting to wire the rear speakers. Made up some templates, part of the process to hopefully not f’up mounting the kick panel speakers. Need to land the speaker magnets just right to clear the lower a-pillar inner structure.

Dark Turquoise, and yeah they make a vinyl covered one. The current one in the car is the original colored cardboard and showing some age.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

Those old Impala interiors are sure wild. Loved the Aqua in our 66 that we restored for Mrs. 7dee2. The last pic was one of the few times we put 3 vehicles in one show.

I like the Caprice tail lights on the Impala. They are a subtle, and classy upgrade.

Thanks, it was the same year as our Impala, 1966. Here’s an earlier post on our Vette and our 68 GMC (The GMC post is part of my new C10 Build thread).

Thanks, same here, nicer looking than the Impala taillights for this year. That was a fun build, Mrs. 7dee2 grew up with Impala’s (several later 4dr models) and hated them. I convinced her they could be cool and built this one to prove it.

Man-o-man it would be nice if they made it the same as the original when a part is reproduced. I know, wishful thinking but hey just a little venting. Both sides on the top & bottom of the repro taillight bezels have some casting stand-offs, these are not on the original bezels. It seems to affect these bigger original-type molded gaskets on the bottom side of the bezel. So, after a few surgical moments with a grinder, the problem is solved and the gaskets sit better.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

And that is why reproduction parts are know as Sorta-Fit..
Cut, shape, weld, grind, tweak, there, see ?? these repro parts fit great...
If the originals aren't pitted badly, they are valuable as restorable cores.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

That's the truth!

Flip, I think I finally got it! So, the gaskets could've used a trimming but I do have a blacked-out tail pan (which mostly hides the excess gasket material), so for now I’m giving it a done stamp and moving on.

Car is coming along nicely. In the sea of colors you see on these Camaros the white is really going to stand out. With the black stripes and accents its going to be great. Oh and the orange headers when you pop the hood, magnifico!

Thank you CG, I hope so and appreciate your compliments.

Wire gutter cover mods for the roll bar feet (bolt access) were next. They land right on the upper bolts and would probably rattle.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

The rear seat filler panel/extension needed a little bit more trimming to sit correctly.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

I guess that isn't surprising with aftermarket. At least they are plastic and easy to trim compared to the original metal panels.
Oh, you have mini tubs, right ? The originals would have needed trimming too, then.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

Yes, on the mini tubs, and this set is OE steel from our donor car. Easily trimmed with “say hello to my little friend” the pneumatic grinder!

Here’s the first of the new PUI panels to be installed. As our body tub is new it’s never had an interior, so every thingamabob and whatchama callit has to be mocked up drilled screwed, and usually set aside for final assembly. These rear panels will also be removed after this final fitting to finish wiring, installing the quarter glass, etc.

looks just so good, I always like how all 67 deluxe interior cars got those rear arm rests. Only got them on fold down rears in 68 coupes.

Being mine is a '67 with deluxe, I wasn't aware the '68 deluxe doesn't have the arm rest. Mine does have the fold down seat too, so I would have the arm rest either way. Must be why I never paid attention to the difference. That or my "short attention span" that my Mom heard at parent conferences for years...
I've always felt the '68 deluxe interior was the classiest of the 3 years. I like the '67 with the stripes, but the '68 looks more plush and refined. I'm the odd man out on the '69 hounds tooth, as I really don't like that pattern.

Ditto on not knowing the 68 Deluxe interiors didn’t get a narrowed seat. Over the years I’ve had several truck interiors that utilized the hound’s tooth pattern. And there are some folks, my friend Cory for one. When I went to show off my new K30 interior he commented he loved it except the hound’s tooth inserts in the seats.

This New Port Engineering wiper motor kit will clear our tall BBC valve covers. I ordered it with the optional switch fitting that uses a factory-style knob in the stock dash location. The OER wiper transmission is very shiny, but other than that, it looks very similar to our beat up red over-sprayed original. Scuffed the arms and rattle canned it to look more like an original part inside the cowl.

Cleaning the threads is always a good idea, especially after paint. In this case for the throttle linkage, wiper motor, etc., etc. The old door panels sure did come in handy to prep the new ones. Locate holes, compare size, and even how the factory finished the vinyl, lots of clues from old parts if you got em.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

What are planning to use for a throttle pedal ? I bought a Lokar Midnight series pedal, to get away from the solid rod and have a more adjustable cable. The issue with that was, it placed all the force of pedal movement on that firewall location and it will flex and crack in a short time. The original pedal used the 2 floor pivots to absorb a lot more of that force than I realized. I had to make a plate to reinforce the mount area on the firewall.
At this point, you could use the mounting bolts to hold a painted reinforcement in place without welding, maybe even on the inside to hide it.
