4l60E with 1990 tbi 350?

Hello all,

I currently have a 700r4 mated to my 350 tbi engine in my 68 step, but the trans has no reverse and needs to be rebuilt. I'm going to buy a new/rebuilt one in March or April and then finish the rest of my restoration by June. The 700r4 trans is from a mid-80's Corvette also, so it has that weird flat-sided Corvette tail shaft housing that was a bear to mount to my trans cross member. I'm wondering if I could instead just buy a rebuilt 4l60E so I don't have to mess with the tv cable setup, or would it be more trouble than it's worth? Not sure if the tbi computer would manage the shifting correctly, if the sensors hook up similarly, would I need to shorten/lengthen my driveshaft, etc., either.

Thanks for any input, and Happy Holidays!

You would need to buy a 'stand-alone' transmission control module and harness to make the 4L60E shift. The connectors are completely different. Your TBI ECM does not have that capability to control an electronically shifted transmission. It would be a lot more trouble than dealing with a tv cable.

.

Seems there are lots of folk out there with TBI 350 /4l60e combos that want to carb swap and keep the tranny control. While I didn't read all the way through this thread I believe it could point you in the right direction.

https://www.s10forum.com/threads/how...-4l60e.461481/

Otherwise you'd need and aftermarket controller...but I think you can make due with what you have.

As for the dimensions and whether or not you'd need to adjust shaft length, according to this article:

https://non-stoptransmission.com/en/info-chevrolet.php

The Corvette trannys (700r or 4l60e) length from mount flange to tip of tail shaft is 29 7/8 " whereas all other 700r/4l60e are 30 3/4 "

Hth,

Great info guys, thank you. That's exactly what I was looking for. I'll just make do with the 700r4.

That is correct, there were TBI engines used with 4L60E's from 1993 to 1995, but they use a different ECM than the non-electronic transmission trucks. And of course the harness is different too.
