Do you carry tools and have storage - if so where?
I carry enough tools in my Tundra to do a small roadside overhaul. I have the especially important items like zip ties, wire, gorilla tape and an assortment electrical repair stiff and tools.
I am not sure where I am going to put stuff in my new C10. I am not a fan of the bed mounted toolboxes on this year truck and I don't know if I want a tonneau cover so I could somewhat hide a regular toolbox. My Tundra has the revolver roll up hard top that locks. I might move the tank someday and then I could have some room behind the seat. Is there a period correct toolbox or storage of some type?

Re: Do you carry tools and have storage - if so where?
Unfortunately, these trucks were designed to haul mainly in the bed.
With the tank in the cab, there's little room for anything behind the seat and even without the tank, it doesn't afford much room. There is some room under the seat but not much of a way to secure items stored under there. I have a step side and I found a tool box designed to fit under a tonneau cover, but that means I would need a tonneau cover. Sorry, I can't offer much help on this one.

There is a little bit of room under the seat.
A person could put tools in a canvas bag. To be period correct a Bed side tool box. Parts for those are at a Premium though.

Re: Do you carry tools and have storage - if so where?
I have a cheap harbor freight tool kit that I keep in our newer truck. I will probably be purchasing something like that to slide underneath the seat once we start regularly driving the old Chevy again. I always keep crappy tools in my vehicles so if something happens to them like getting stolen during a break and it's not as bad. Plus most times
people are less likely to break into steal harbor freight tools, snap-ons or matco's, or even Craftsman.

Re: Do you carry tools and have storage - if so where?
I've always had a toolbox in the bed. MY 70 has had this one since it was a new truck, so I was told. I keep a small floor jack and tools in there. Like you said I could get a good bit done on the road.

Re: Do you carry tools and have storage - if so where?
My truck has the 2nd tank under the bed removed and I wonder if I could have a box or drawer mounted up there on the frame rail somewhere. It would suck to get to but I am just throwing out ideas. I though someone here might have a solution already.

If I am going on a road trip somewhere I just put a plastic tote in the bed with the tools I think I will need. I always put a bungee strap over the lid so it doesn't blow off.

I was thinking about the same space under my bed side too. I have one extra tank on the left but the right side is wide open. Maybe like a spare tire lift/crank deal?

Re: Do you carry tools and have storage - if so where?
I keep a little tool kit under the passenger bucket seat at all times and I keep a spare fan belt over in the cab corner on the Passenger side. For longer road trip I stick some more tools in the center console or glove box.

I saw a guy in the White Mountains of Arizona who had welded on a GI .50 Cal Ammo Can to something in his engine bay of his Blazer and kept his tools there.

Re: Do you carry tools and have storage - if so where?
Yea I had a couple cheap tool boxes laying around and I had some scrap rail stuff (don't know the proper name) and I bolted the boxes to the fender wells.
They've been mounted like that for years without any problems and they sure come in handy! ![]() |

BRL you have a supreme solution there. Our trucks should have come from the factory with that.

Re: Do you carry tools and have storage - if so where?
I do not, as a rule carry tools. When I towed a travel trailer, though, I have a 3-drawer tool chest equipped with what I might need. Now I have a new-ish motorhome, and AAA is going to have to deal with it. It goes to the dealer for maintenance.

I like the swing out boxes that mount in the rear of the bed but again I am unsure on the looks.

That is sweet! I have a tote bag. It's got a very useful set of tools and some accessories. If I travel any significant distance, it goes with me, regardless of the vehicle. It's nice to have a set of gloves, light and hand tools when/if something unexpected requires them. EDIT: Ima upgrade this to one of those rollup compartmentalized jobbers soon -Kevin
