What did you get done?

I'm on call this weekend so I didn't get much truck stuff done. I washed both of drivers but that was about it until today. After church I came home and worked with my landscaper crew for a while. Then I took off to repair some video games and drop by a local salvage yard.

The POS that came with my 77 Cheyenne doesn't work and I wanted something shorter anyway. I figured an 88-98 GM truck scissor jack would do the trick. I went by a local salvage yard that specializes in late model salvage looking for a jack. I found exactly what I wanted in a mid 90 Tahoe that had never been used. I also made a gruesome discovery while I was there. Read this for details

I checked the jack to see if it will work under the 77 when it's aired out. It won't go under the A-arms, but it will go under the frame. I put the jack and handle storage set behind my seat and it fits nice. I feel a little better about road trips now.

ummm went tot he local flea market looking around, nothing special, went to brother in laws, had fun playing on the clay roads while it rained... actually getting anything done no i did not

my tacoma blew out a spark plug thread (factory insert) and it was a real headache to fix but I think I got it licked. Cleaned up some old junk at my folks' place, cut up an old 6.5' fiberglass shell and threw it in a dumpster, never got around to finding the source of the "creaking" sounds coming from my 77 GMC. I will get on that this week. Other than that, just relaxed. had a long hard workweek, dont have a lot of motivation or energy to do too much this weekend!

I put new rotors and bigger pads on my 79. Did you guys know the 3/4ton 2wd brake pads are the same mounting wise as the 1/2ton only more pad contact area with the rotor? Its a good upgrade

This is in anticapation of trading it for a super clean green/grey 92 mustang GT :p

i checked out my front brakes, something is screwy there, only the driver front will lock up, and i got a weird low frequecny vibration when ever i lock up my TQ, barly feel it other wise, and my overflow bottle busted, not a good week for the truck

Friday - Finished the hookup of the main electrical feed to the new shop. getting a cable with 3 #00s anc a #2 ground is a whole lot of fun. Picked up moist of the electrical supplies to wire the shop.

Saturday - Mowed the hay field known as my yard. Dang rain makes this stuff grow to fast. I believe I might actually need a siclebar on a tractor if it keeps growing like it has been. Worked on my 70 trying to find out why it no sparkies. I winched the 70 out of the new shop and covered her all up again so we can work on the wiring in open space. Started mounting some of the 8' shop ceiling lights and a few switch boxes.

Replaced the turn signal housing on the 82.

Today was home work within the nice confines of good ole american AC!!!!!!!

Worked from 6am until 10:30pm Fri so I slept in on Sat am (only to go back to work for a couple of hours Sat afternoon). Sorted through garage stuff & watched the race.

On Sun we went to HoDepo to look @ replacement blinds & then did some much needed yard work after tuning up the mower (I'm actually suprised it ran the last time I used it).

I picked up a complete serpentine belt setup for the truck (Thanks Dwayne! I'll get your gas pedal and power window switch pigtail as soon as possible, and deliver it to your place), also picked up a brand new comp cam XE262 with brand new lifters still in the original, unopened box for about 90 bucks US, picked up a couple speedometers (was gonna play speedo shop, but it ain't gonna happen, too many differences between the units) but since I have two complete speedos that will take the VSS that another forum member is sending me in exhange for yet another speedo and fuel gauge, I can find a local speedo shop and get them to calibrate the 85 mph speedo to work with the 100 mph faceplate.

Also have all of my TPI parts either on their way, or here already now, everything else but a set of headers I am likley gonna buy from a forum member, can and will be bought locally I'm within 100 bucks of having my complete setup here

So yeah, while I didn't get anything actually done to the truck (I've sworn to myself that I ain't touching it again until I've got my TPI ready to go, after I get the TPI in and working, I'll pull the exhaust off my truck, and install the cam / serpentine belt setup, and break it in, I'm starting to get real excited!

Oh yeah, I did do a little more truck stuff this week. I bought an NOS intermittent wiper switch for my 77. These things are as rare as hens teeth, but thanks to a friendly heads up from dswancutt I finally have one.

Did you already have intermittent wipers or are you converting the standard wipers with that switch? I would like to convert mine to intermittent if its possible. What is the box looking thing in the picture behind the switch?

All I did to mine this weekend was to wash it for the first time since May. I usually wash it every week, but I just wasn't able to do much after my surgery. After I healed well enough to get around, I was so far behind on everything else that washing the truck just always seemed to get put off.

I had two total strangers approach me and ask me if it was for sale over the weekend. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. Not too bad for an old truck that needs a paintjob.

No I didn't have intermittent wipers but I really wanted them. 77 was the first year for this option, and even then it was pretty rare. They had problems with the original design and changed it, making parts almost impossible to find.

What you see is just the switch. I still have to add the pulse control module. Forum member 7t7 has one that came in his truck that he isn't using. He is sending it to me (thanks again Frank) to see if I can make mine work.

I'd like to know how it turns out and try this on my 76'. I had an 83' that had the intermittent switch in the dash and an 85' that had the switch on the column. So I guess they changed around 84' or 85'.

I'll post it as soon as I figure it out. Just so you know even though your 83 had the switch in the dash it was not the same set up. The switch from 78-83 is different.....

I've got intermittent wipers on my GMC, but they only work half the time. Sometimes it'll delay, othertimes it'll go constantly, sometimes it'll delay twice, go fast three times, delay 5 times, go fast 2 times, its really random, so I just use the manual override to clean my windsheild when it is just drizzling.

I think the biggest issue with the earlier intermittent wipers was the pulse control module. It seems as if it wasn't designed very well. I have one coming from an 80 Burb thanks to Jonboy. If I can't make the one 7t7 is sending me work, I'll try the one fron Jonboy. I'll have to get everything in front of me and see what I can come up with.....

They aren't rare. You can still get them from AC Delco, part # D6328A or GM #14028810. GMpartsdirect price $21.89 (plus their shipping/markup...)

The 80-83 (78?-83)style is AC Delco part #D6326A

The 77-83 Module is AC Delco part #D6355A
