It is for LWB/SWB and was designed for Headers, but if you get your downtubes made these will work. The company that makes them is Pypes Exhaust. I am a distributor for them.

Swervin Ervin on this board installed the first one I sold.

This is the direct link to them in my catalog.

I have the spec sheet scanned if you would like to see it.

I have a question, what size are the optional collector reducers? I would need a 2.5 to 2.5 since I have hooker comp headers with 2.5 collectors.

I could use use the stock head pipe but it is smaller than the 3" but would be ok with the LMC exh which is 2 1/4".

Any indication if pypes is going to make unversal head pipes? .... if this is possible.

Buying a complete system over the counter at your local napa is rediculously priced. It would end up being 400+.

Do you have any single inlet/dual outlet systems for those of us who have to keep it emissions legal?

That is emissions legal, you will have to add two catalytic convertors. But this is just my understanding I could be wrong.

On the Pypes system. It is 2.5" back to the mufflers so if you already have a 2.5" collector, you will be set to go.

As for it being emissions legal, not really true unless your inspector will pass it with 2 cats. Real legal is supposed to be just the way it came stock which is a y-pipe and 1 cat. I got real lucky and talked my inspector into passing mine with 2 cats. I still haven't found anyone to weld it all up for me. None of the muffler shops around my parts will touch it because they say it isn't legal. I don't like all the clamps it comes with.

Mike - Have you finished the install with clamps? Do you have any pictures? How about comments on the fit? Did you get the sound you were after?

Joe,

yes it's finished. I have two cats and wanted them to be back past the crossmember so as not to put all the heat on the tranny. This moved everything back between 15 to 20 inches. Then as Chris said, it's made for LWB or SWB and this means you would need to cut the pipes at the rear x pipe anyway. But with adding cats, this makes it even longer. The x pipe is farther back this way.

Anyway, everything fits great (after cutting to fit your app). The bends over the axle are just about perfect. I don't understand why it has 2.5" in front of the mufflers and 3" out back. The adapters they send with the kit didn't fit. It was intended to fit the 2.5" muffler outlet and 3" tailpipe but it was exactly the same size with no way to slip over either one. I took the adapters to the muffler shop and had them expanded to fit. Only cost me 2 bucks.

The sound is nice. I really like it.

Ponjohn-

If you're looking for a system that will bolt up to your stock manifolds without modification, take a look at this system from Dynomax. The price is better than LMC and shipping from Jegs will be much cheaper (free!). You do have to add mufflers but you don't have to use the dynomax ones, others will work. I've used these systems 4 or 5 times and they are great for the price.

My next system, for my 86 project, will be from CaptKaos as has been mentioned in this thread. It is better than the Dynomax setup but would require some fab work for your setup.

Mike -

Looks great as usual. What mufflers did you end up with this time?

Joe,

it was the mufflers included in the kit. I can't remember now but I think they had Pypes stamped on them. Not sure though. The x pipe gives it a unique sound I've never heard or had before. I am well satisfied with the sound and I'm as picky as they come.

No downtubes are coming from Pypes from what I understand. As Mike indicated it is 2.5" from the headers to the mufflers and then 3" from mufflers back, so connecting to the stock 2.25" should be pretty easy.

8t5Silverado
This is the only system that they are currently making.

ElGracho
Pypes makes their own mufflers. The ones that come with the kit are their quiet flows. He indicated they would be along the lines of a Dynomax as far as sound goes.

Understatement of the month. although N2TRUX is right there with you... It looks good on there Mike, now when do I get a write-up for my site?

Joe:

How hard is that setup to install? How much fabrication is necessary? Is it a bolt-in, or does it require welding (I don't have a welder...)? How do they make a setup that works with so many years of truck? There are so many different crossmembers and transmissions that I can't imagine it fitting anything well.

Thanks,

Slonaker

I've use the setup on my 84 K10 with headers, it fit just fine with both the TH350 before and the TH700R4 now. I also used it on my 86 C10 (TH700R4) and 80 C15 (TH350C and then TH700R4) both with headers. The crossmembers are a little different on those two, but it didn't have any issues with either. They include clamps and the pipes are expanded for the joints between pipes. I did weld my header reducers to the head pipes and you have to cut the pipes if you install on a short box since they are long enough for a longbed too. I can take a pic of the system I just put on my Indy Hauler but it will have to be in a few days since I'm headed out of town for a wedding.

I don't know how well the system would fit with the early style 'double hump' crossmember that Mike and Jeff are using.

My '76 had duals installed from the factory. Will this system connect to the OEM hangers, or are they designed for those cheesy aftermarket hangers?

It could be for added sound or possibly to expell the gasses quicker once they leave the muffler. Just a thought...or two.

I agree with Chris, maybe you could do a nice little write up for Chris and post it on his site...might make his site members want a kit for themselves.

LMC Exhaust

Joe;

I am in the same boat as 76HighSierra, I need to put exhaust with factory manifolds on my 78 K-10 which is also a factory dual exhaust. My questions is does the Dynomax system make all the bends to get around the transfer case and dual tank switch. Take a look at this picture:

http://brochures.slosh.com/index.shtml?1977chevy

from the 77 Blazer to make sense of what I am trying to say.

I didn't have any interference on my 84 K10 which also has dual tanks and a transfer case.

Joe;

Thanks for your response. I really need to replace my exhaust system, but was worried about the fit. I think I will go ahead and order this system

Thanks again

Sorry to highjack the thread, but it is slightly related.

Anyone have problems with the new catalytic converters that Summit sells for our truck? They are supposed to be a direct replacement. I am worried that a high flow cat may not pass emissions...
