sorry looks like I signed off before you answered. I just need to know any tips or tricks.I bought the bearings and stuff from LMC. also would a loose upper bearing make my shifter hard to get into park. This is for a manual steering truck with auto and no tilt Thanks , also no bent linkage thanks

To fix the park thing, put that lil nozzle on yer can of wd-40 and squirt it in where the shifter is...work it thru all ranges,use a rag underneath to keep the crap from drippin on yer floor.

A bad upper bearing shouldnt make you have a park problem. I have never had a bearing go bad though. I take them out, pack'em with grease. Then put them back in. They will get dirty though. Just wash them,blow'em out with air. After you take it apart let me know what you find inside and i will try to help you out some more.

it`s been awhile since I WD-40ed the column I`ll try that again. I`m thinking the upper bearing isn`t that bad most of my bearing slop is on the lower end. I have to wait until I get 2 or 3 off days together before I pull the wheel in case I screw up. Its my daily driver. thanks again

I have the same problem, only mine is getting the damn column adjusted to the shifter...

I remember one time i couldnt get my tilt out of park-that sucked since i needed to haul ass to work!!!!the shift indicator pointer somehow slid back and jammed crap up,had a buddy take me to work that day,but next morning problem was cured.A so simple but pain in the ass when your in a rush(been at new job for a few days didnt want to be late),frustrated,i crawled under it and everything-could figure it out-who woulda thought-well my dad was to the rescue again-he always seemed good with columns-i will never take one apart again,i have a tilt in pieces still from a few years ago,glad it was only a van column.im sure i could put it together now,im alot more patient and less violent nowadays.
