Gmc Vin Can You Help
I was wondering if anyone can help break down thid vin # all i realy need is the year . I am trying to get a title for the truck if anyone has info that will help me get one i would realy appreciate it .

look at the #s you have on drivers side on cab where door closes it should start with cs or ce start with the c and count 5 spots the fifth one will be the last # in the year your truck is if it is a 7 = 67 8=68 9=69 0=70 1=71 2=72 i hope this will help

GMC vins vary by year. You'll have to post the number.

you can leave off the last 4 numbers if you like there really not needed to decode the vin to its year and assembly plant, weight class, etc.

The GMC VINs are the same except the 7th Character should be the year, as far as I know:
1967 = C; 7 for Chevy 1968 = B; 8 for Chevy 1969 = A; 9 for Chevy 1970 = Z for 15 Series; A for 25 - 35 Series; 0 for Chevy 1971 = 1; 1 for Chevy 1972 = 2; 2 for Chevy

GMC vins are done in about three different manners.

S= six cyl 1= 1/2 ton OD= wideside-fleetside box Z= Fremont Assembly plant A= 1969 year model You got a 69 GMC 1/2 ton 2wd with a pickup box.

As for all those other numbers...pretty much they were for the assembly line workers to see what kind of model truck they were building. Basically its a portion of the model number thats usually there... I havent seen one as long as you posted on a truck. It pretty much tells the same information a model number breaks down to. With what you posted it is C=conventional cab S= six cyl 1= 1/2 ton 59= 54 inches from cab to rear axle. Why they used 59 to say 54" is beyond me but if it were a Chev it would be a 09 to say 54" inches. 0D= for the fleetside box for those that had not seen a 59 before...it explains a dimension from cab to rear axle..that way you could know the wheel base... being it a short box regular or longhorn dimension. the rest I dont know, and its usually not there on the cab firewall as far as I have seen. does any of the rest match with your vin, it would seem not as you did post your vin also...has the cab been swapped? Anyone know what the rest means.

it is in fact the original cab as I got it from the original owner. I am having troubles downsizing the pic without losing clarity. I will be @ Shuttermutt's MN meet this wknd if anyone there can help. should I try to keep this firewall when I do my cab stretch? you know, for authenticity.

My Mistake.....I'm not trying to lead you into thinking the cab has been swapped...by whats there and written on the firewall it appears authentic to the 68 GMC vin number.
As I wrote before, I have usually only seen what are known as model numbers on the firewall.. its what you have ...but you have additional charcters there which I have not seen before, hence, never bothered to decode them ...yet. If its important info, I probably will find out what they all mean eventually. I still learn new stuff....not full of it yet..lol. Rod authenticity may be considered altered if you strech a cab...lol....anyway it would still be a unique to have firewall marking still there when its all done. Sounds like you have plans for it and thats all good.
