Side marker flashes?

Is the front side marker suppose to flash with the turn signal? This is on my '71. Or,... is something screwed up? Never noticed till I replaced my front turn signal assembly. Help!

Actually, some do and some don't. I did a poll on here a little over a year ago, and it seemed 50/50.
I know on the two longhorns I have had, both were 1970, and one blinked, and the other does not. Unmolested harnessesd, and good grounds and all.

none of the rear markers blinked from the factory. it is easy to make them blink, but there is quite a bit of wire involved going from the front of the truck to the back.

Well here is one for ya, my 68 GMC has the side markers but they're just reflectors, no bulbs at all. In fact the back of the reflector is smooth, no hole for the twist in light socket.

Someday I hope to order the custom side markers with the chrome accent, then hack into the harness and add lights.

The sidemarker lights on mine light up, but don't blink. Wiring has never been butchered either.

Tug, all 68's were that way.The reflectors were required for 68 but lights were required for 69.Gm went ahead and made the reflectors with the mold for the lights.I guess it saved them a penny or 3.

Ahh I see, thanks for the info.

I know some would think me crazy for changing something that is model specific. What can I say, I like the lights!

Actually, they were optional in both 68 and 69. Tehy were required in 70 on light duty pick ups.
Cars needed front ones in 68, and in 69 they needed front and rear.

I thought the front sidemarkers flashed with the turn signals in '72 only? Definitely not on '70 and older.

I know we had a big discussion about this a while ago and it seems that we never came to any hard conclusion about wether side markers, if lighted should blink.

Every schematic I've seen for the 68-72 trucks show the side lights just wired to the parking light circuit. I have yet to see a schematic with the side markers wired to the turn signal circuit in any way.

Does anyone have a 71-72 schematic on hand? We could see if the light circuit wiring changed later in our series.

I guess that I should have been more clear...lol In his post he says that he has a 71. All 71-72s flashed.... 68 and some early 69s have reflectors only. The late 69s and 70s just lit up. So the answer to lolife99's question is still YES.... WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
