the unofficial 47-98 POSOTM
At the request of the chat room crowd, we are holding the unofficial 47-98 POSOTM. The only rules for nominating are 1. It MUST be YOUR OWN truck you nominate (not nice to tell someone else they have a POS ) 2. Have fun, if the term POS bothers you then don't participate.
* because there will always be questioning of terms, for this feature POS is described as follows...not a show truck , well unless it tends to blow up weekly. A POS can be a driver, a heap , a storage unit for all the stuff you have no clue what to do with in your yard, a rusted pile of previous metal in your yard... as long as you own it, it was at one time a 47-98 Chevy or GMC Truck and it is "one day gonna be a beauty" its all good. The nomination process for Octobers POSOTM will be open until October 10th. At that time we will compile the nominees and vote for our favorite POS. so go for it.. if you have a POS much like I do heres your chance for your 15 minutes of fame !! Nominations are now open. |

I vote that each POS's owner gives a brief description of why their truck should be the POSOTM.
HOw bady is it rusted? Where has it left you stranded? Do you use a screw driver as an ignition key Al Bundy? C'mon.. I need details

hmm, i'll play! This is mainly a daily driver.
It doesn't look quite so good up close as it does in pictures either.

It's really not that bad!
It's a 1970 GMC 3/4 ton. It has spent it's life in the Canadian subarctic, where salt is never used. It's had a tough life but the cab and front clip are in almost rust free shape!
Now I just need to find a short bed frame to bolt them too! Does it help if I mention that it ran when parked! Engine seized!

Ok I'm in too. Heater wont blow through dash anymore.. again (just in time for the cold weather) ac dont work either, leaf spring pins are broke, tranny is slipping REAL bad, 3.08 gears w/35" tires , dent in quarter panel, dash lights stopped working, and wipers sometimes have a mind of their own. But "their aint nothin wrong with the ra-dio"

here she is as of today...no transfer case in her yet, and the transmission output shaft is toast. The starter took a crap too. Also, last winter's cold caused the windshield to crack around a rock chip, so that needs replaced too.
The pass. side rear tire went flat so we put on the spare (which was also flat, and all 5 of these are split rims too ), so right now there is a jack stand behind the backing plate holding it up, and we left the tire quasi-bolted on so as not to lose the lugs, it isnt flush with the drum so it takes a drunken lean (hard to see in pics). Driveshafts are in the bed under the tarp, along with the old Rockwell T221 transfer case and my spare SM465, and some other misc crap. On top of the tarp are lumber scraps, loading ramps, a picnic table bench, what appears to be a pitcher, and a dolly used to move my axle, transfer case, and transmission collection around with. inside the cab is a milk crate (its twin is underneath the truck), along with my self inflating camping mattress (aka what I lay on under the truck), two old Public Address suitcase systems that I picked out of a dumpster, some rags, an empty can or Barq's root beer, and my NP205. I think there is a toolbox in there too, and some other misc trash. Oh, the high hump cover is there too, under the mattress, and you can kinda see its hole in the floor. My bench seat is in the barn, most likely reeking of cat piss. I have big plans for this truck...but no money. :-( There is a Dodge Dana 60 front axle in the garage just begging to be put in, but of course it too needs rebuilt.

Here are a few pics of my old 72 3/4 ton First pic was with the snazzy 87 bed we riddled with bulletholes and held down with coat hangers
The second is of the nice return spring. and the third is a partial pic when it had a flatbed. Last edited by 1972C10; 07-02-2007 at 01:12 AM. |

Here is my POS. The fuel system leaks, all the tires have fix a flat in them and with the drivers door (off of a 67) closed you can stick your fingers outside thru the door and door frame. I've taken a 1/2" or so of bondo from the drivers side of the bed and still have more in there. Both front and rear bumpers are all bent up.

OK, here it is.
Notice the perfect alignment of the wheels in the wheel wells. The chassis lengt was altered bt the PO. I'm not quite sure where he was going with it Engine is a 350 with TH350. Will be a 383 with 700R4. It is Hot wired to run now. Steering column is a temp. hooked up early 70s caddy tilt/tele. Chassis is a 71-72, will be a S10 or other 4wd/AWD. The beautiful interior work is provided by parts that have been collected. Long way to go! |

Here is my 59 chev that I have had for 18 yrs.
I have dismantled it completely over that period of time and still have almost ever bolt. It sits on a 77 blazer frame I have a 454 that is/was (cause my ideas for change daily) going to go in it. The box is now my utility trailor for my quad. The truck was my dads when he was a kid. He put a 55 front clip and a sb in it.

As for why my truck is a POS - Lol, just look at it! I think it's pretty self explanatory. I have decided that it will see the road again though.

- Burnt valves - Hole in the rad fixed with a bit gob of solder - Holes in the box side big enough for you to stick your head through - Holes in the secondary fuel tank - Box is so rusted, that if you step on the bare metal and miss the crossmember, you'll fall through - Box is held down by a long strip of flat iron with holes drilled into it that correspond with the box bolt holes on the fram - Truck was used to haul a 20 000 lbs trailer off the rear bumper, so the bumper is bowed and beat to crap - Front driver's side frame rail is bent after a towing accident (anyone think of a ricer that got stuck in the snow and had his rear end pulled off? Think of the same thing, but on my truck's front bumper...) - Big crack behind the steering box, cause by spoken towing accident - After two years, I am STILL finding live ammuntion in my cab, lol - Had holes in the roof under the clearance lights, so the truck leaked something horrible - Heater fan makes a nasty howling noise - 14 bolt Rear end is about to break - Driveshaft isn't balanced, so the thing rattles and shakes at anything over 50 mph - Front end has nasty wheel hop when you are taking gradual curves on the highway - Tires all have flat spots on them, so when you are going through a school zone, it looks like you have airbags as all four corners of the truck bounce in a pattern at different times I've even fixed most of the rest of the peice of crappiness of it already I can get more pictures if wanted :p
