how to remove rear u bolts?
I know this seems a simple question. But does anybody have a trick on removing the rear u bolts on a "72" Have tried a strong arm and a 3' cheater bar, but only got a sore back!

Fire.........Heat. You can either heat the nuts or cut the u-bolts and put in new ones.
If you don't have a oxy/acc torch to cut with a common porpane torch will do the heating part. |

cut em! I use a die grinder with a cut off wheel.

a good method is to heat em up and theyll come right off. I did mine that way and it was easy.

I tried heat(oxy/ace) and a 10' cheater and still ended up cutting the bolts with a die grinder.
Be careful, there's alot of stress on those u-bolts and when they give it can scare the crap out of you... Good luck, Rg

Guess I've had good luck...
Just sprayed mine with penetrating oil several times...used a cheater bar, came right off.

A good 1/2" 500ft/lb torque air impact gun usually does the trick for me.

An old trick I used to use on "stubborn" bolts:
Heat the offending bolt and nut with a torch, then cool the bolt down with penetrating oil. Works great, especially on those stubborn exhaust manifold bolts.
