guage question
i bought a cab off a 72 GMC and put it on my truck and am just getting things buttoned up. i switched to a internally regulated alternator which works like a champ and in the wiring i connected a lead to the wire that is supposed to go to my volt guage but nothing happens on the guage when the motor is running or what not it never moves...how do i track down the problem?

A voltage gauge can hook up to ground and a positive wire anywhere or directly to the battery.
Is your volt meter an after market unit? Jim |

It must be an ammeter. The ammeter circuit is completely separate from the alternator and picks up its signal from the resistance in the main cab feed wire. Assuming that your wiring is factory and intact, I would suggest checking the two little fuses that are on each side of the radiator in the wiring harness, (they look like little rubber footballs).
Don't wire the ammeter direct as you will fry it! Jim |
